I just purchased a new Yamaha RX-V573 AV Receiver. I am now having a problem programing my Dish remote to control it. The Dish remote will turn it on but will not turn it off. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

We can't guarantee our remotes will work with all equipment out there. Learning mode would be the best shot, but if that doesn't work the remote will likely not perform that function.

Yamaha has discrete on and off commands rather than a single power toggle. So Dish has the ON mapped to power. You simply need to learn OFF to a different button or learn power toggle from another remote if possible. If you have any old cable, one-for-all or radio shack remotes, they can send the power toggle. I can give you the codes and procedures if you can post the remote model in that case.

After some experimentation I was able to find several codes that work to turn it on and several codes that work to turn it off but not one code that will do both. I emailed Yamaha Tech support and they told me it is a Dish remote code issue.
Is there any way to program the DVD button to act as a second Aux button?
Thanks

Since the codes for turning on and off are different, you will have to program another button on your remote to turn the receiver off, that is of course if your remote is one of the newer learning remotes.

That was my idea also to use one of the other buttons like the DVD since I use my Playstation 3 to watch movies. I have a 21.1 IR/UHF Dish remote which I believe is a newer unit. I called and talked to Dish support but I am not sure the tech understood what I wanted to do. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I'm pretty sure the 21.1 is learning. But you can't learn to the device selection keys like DVD. So just pick some other unused button. You probably don't use the colored buttons. So I'd use red for off and green (or power) for on since that's easy to remember.

If you get an IR adapter for your PS3, you can use your Dish remote to control it as well. The Nyko blu-wave, for example, works a PS3 using standard sony DVD codes.

Also make sure your remote isn't in limited mode. Otherwise most of the buttons won't work. All the programming details are in the manual you got with your system or are downloadable from Dish's site.

Great Idea for the colored buttons but I cannot find anywhere how to program them. Do you happen to know how to do that or where to find that information.
Thanks,

Just talked to Dish Tech support and was told the colored keys are specifically for use with the Dish receiver. Guess I am out of luck with that idea.
