DISH Reaches Long Term Agreement with DISNEY / ESPN / ABC

The carriage is part of the negotiations with ESPN/Disney. DISH has agreed to carry it, while most other carriers have not, but it is pending the overall ESPN/Disney deal. If it was reported any othe way the report was wrong.

"Sources said that the country’s third-largest distributor, Dish Network, has agreed to carry the channel from its August launch. The deal has not been completed and is part of a bigger overall deal that it is negotiating with ESPN."

Again the difference is other carriers (or most) have made no committments, while DISH has and to carry it from day 1. So if you are not happy with that and are going to threaten to leave DISH, at this point you better have ATT-Uverse.

Also, Dish increasing their sports package was accompanied by other channels being added, and not done alone, everyone pays more for sports now. DISH has one of the lowest cost ways to get the NFL Redzone.

I would also like to add that when you signed up for dish and signed that contract it clearly states that prices and channels can and will change with out notice. That is on any agreement with any company. You can't get mad at Dish when that all have made it clear in the beginning. I know its gets old but we all agreed to it or we wouldn't have the service.

I wonder if DTV does the same? That might be a clue whether it's a MVPD decision, or a BTN decision.
 
I don't think it was due to external circumstances. BTN is supposed to be available to residents of states with a team for free with a package. When I signed up with them that was on their website with no words about exceptions. I wonder if we are the only BTN area excluded?
 
At the Direct TV site it looks to me a zip code in Philly does include BTN. Was DIRT ever asked to look into it?
 
Again, not according to the SEC Network which should know. "Sources say" is basically crap. Only Dish, ESPN and the SEC know. http://www.getsecnetwork.com/. We may get it anyway, but lets sign the petition which might increase our chances if enough Dish customers request it..

As to cost going up, from $49 (annual) a year to $132 (monthly only now) a year in a few years is way out of line. As to redzone, if this is the main reason (or the excuse), break it out separately as an option. My brain is not flakely enough to jump around just as I am getting interested in a game. I prefer actual games to watch and redzone is an exceptionally poor substitute. BTW, NFL audiopass will give you a radio alternative to getting the actual games for $20 a season (last season). I did drop the Dish sports package last year after having had it for a dozen or so years.

As to Watch ESPN, this ESPN thread has been going on for a long time and football season is over and college basketball well past the half way point.

So it was apparently negotiated between the BTN and Dish so that Dish would not have to pay for everyone in the Philly DMA (which includes parts of Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey). Now that Rutgers and Maryland are joining I would expect that soon :) Philly subs would get the channel without Multi-Sport, but of course that depends on what the BTN and Dish work out.
 
It does appear that way. If you go to the BTN site is does specifically say Louisville and Philly are excluded but available in the Sports package.

You keep referring to a site that does not address who has committed, only the one carrier that has signed. When DISH signs the contract with ESPN/Disney and the channels are official your site will reflect it. The article is very clear it is pending those negotiations. (And may partly be why DISH opened up space recently)

I think the posts at this site and the universal love of the Red Zone channel speaks for itself. More than just the Red Zone was added, and sports costs have gone sky high.

I'm interested where you can get a similar package from a carrier for much less. (And I'm not sure anyone else offers the Red Zone besides Direct TV - and mostly you must get the full NFL package to get it)

I know Charter offers the same RedZone channel as Dish. I remember getting lots of fliers about it when they added it and NFL Network a couple years ago. I think lots of cable providers have the NFL Network version of RedZone. The one Directv offers is a different channel.

I think that before we see an uplink report, we will see a big news flash announcing the signing of the agreement. And I am sure Scott will post it minutes after it is released.

As far as Scott saying he had seen the uplink schedule for the rest of the month, of course he wouldn't see anything about Disney. We'll only see that info after the contract is signed.
