Scott,are you surprised that Charlie would relent and agree to pay higher fees just for autohop?You know CBS Fox and Comcast are just licking their chops now.

I don't think we will ever know how much extra the abc o&o. Cost DISH to keep AutoHop going.

I can't imagine it's not that much.

I would not be surprised if Dish agrees to double re-transmission fees for Hopper customers. It would not really cost Dish a lot since most customers do not have the hopper yet. I also would not be surprised if Dish factored settling with all the networks in the last price increase.

Actually double is probably cheap. The commercials still count for more than half the revenue a network station receives. Of course one could argue that it is prime time only and the other hours of the day still have commercials.

Not to mention that it's only available the following day and that many DVR users already skip commercials. So it's not like PTAT is really impacting commercial views all that much.

Given the price increases I suspect Dish thinks they can settle for around $1.25/network/month with the hopper (i.e. $5).

You are forgetting that we are only talking about a handful of o&o stations in a handful of markets, so even double would be a drop in the bucket compared to a $5 increase for everyone.

I'd prefer to not use autohop if it would cost $5/mo. In fact, I wouldn't complain if Dish were to drop autohop and incorporate the TIVO smart fast fwd instead. The other guys had it in their receivers and even an uncoordinated senior citizen like me can quickly get adept at using it. It would also make skipping thru commercials easier when watching the many non-PTAT recordings I have.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I could live without all of the Disney channels. If the channel provider is confident of making the deal, you know that we're all going to pay for it. Wouldn't it be nice if we could opt out (other than dropping every pay provider out there).

I would not count on that. Local stations have to kick back so much of the retransmission fees to the networks. I would not be surprised if the deal covers all the ABC stations. The local station probably will not get more, but ABC will.

That seems doubtful. ABC has no control over the non-O&O stations. What happens when there is a dispute and they're pulled off of Dish?
