Dish Pricing Update

Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but the way I see it, someone in my position, that has AEP with 2 DVRs (I have 2 722ks) will see only the addition of the DVR fee.

Now:

1st 722K no lease fee; no DVR fee (AEP)
2nd 722K $12.00 lease fee; no DVR fee
and there is no $5.00 A/O fee because I have ethernet connected.

After 2/1/10

1st 722K no lease fee, +$6.00 DVR fee
2nd 722K $17 lease fee, less $5.00 A/O fee; no DVR fee

A net increase of $6.00

That is the way that I understand the new fees, perhaps I am missing something. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Same here. However, we are currently paying $7.00 lease fee + $5.00 DVR fee=$12.00 bundle.

Check your bill I think you will only see a 7.00 charge for the second receiver so the increase
may be more.

Yes, on my current bill, there is a DVR receiver fee of $12.00 for the second 722k.
I went ahead and bundled my Dish Network account with my telephone company CenturyLink, that way, I save $5.00 per month, which (hopefully) will offset the largest part of any price increase that I might see.
The only down side is that I have to deal with CenturyLink rather than Dish directly.

I just got official contact from Dish and unfortunately they are unable to give further details of the new pricing. In addition I received word that Dish Network has canceled their press conference and instead will be doing in booth demos of the new technology instead.

I have a feeling CES this year is going to be really disapointing. :(

From what I've seen, CES has been disappointing ever since companies figured out you can just have a press conference like Apple does. I've thought about going in the past (since the boss goes each year for SiriusXM stuff) and I just haven't had an urge.

I hope it comes back around though. I'm bummed to hear Dish apparently won't be doing a heck of a lot.

Scott,

Let's hope Dish is reconsidering their rumored new pricing, especially for subs like you and I (we have multiple receivers and the highest programing package). If Dish does as is rumored, my billing increase will be $48 per month going from $143 to almost $200 per month, or a 34 percent increase (for me at least).

I will defiantly consider churning to DirecTV, unless they have a protracted retransmission consent agreement fight with MSG (as that is my home RSN). Rainbow and DirecTV have yet to come to renewal agreement for carriage, which will expire January 1st 2010.

Bye Rainbow?

Rainbow may be looking at not being carried on any sat company? This would be really funny then all they would be on is the cable co's Wonder how that would look to their investors?

Isn't Rainbow owned by CableVision? The investors might treat that just like the Comcast investors like the exclusivity of CSN Philadelphia.:clap

People are saying the $17 will not be charged for the first DVR, so you should have $1 saving. Although I found it hard to believe they will waive the whole $17 for the first DVR, which means a basic SD non-DVR cost the same as a DuoHDDVR.

Today I pay $7 total in hardware fees for two 722 DVRs with the AEP and with phone lines connected. If I understand the proposed new pricing scheme, a $6 DVR fee plus $17 for the second 722 equals $23. This is $16 more than today. Again, where is the math or underlying logic incorrect?

Thanks,

Went and looked over my current bill. I have Silver 200 at the "withDVR" rate of $57.99 for one receiver (Base is $52.99). Then I have the $12.00 lease/DVR fee bundle for my second 722. So, I am currently paying $17.00 for lease/DVR fees. Since there will be no "with DVR" packages, my programming will drop $5.00, with a net increase for the two DVRs at $1.00:

Now:

Programming package plus "with DVR" ....$5.00
Second receiver lease and Dvr fee ...$12.00
TOTAL ...$17.00

After Change:

1st receiver N/C
DVR Fee ...$6.00
Receiver Fee ...$17.00
LESS A/O (phone line connected) ...($5.00)
TOTAL $18.00

So, $1.00 more. That's how I'm calculating it. So am I off???

That's same way I see it ,I do not know why he pays $12 if he has AEP.
Like others only do AEP for the no dvr charge so if this is right will have to drop.
some of the premiums.Unless they offer me some incentive to keep it.

Of course I was talking about after the new pricing plan, can you imagine an account with just one SDDVR, and another account with just one DuoHDDVR, will pay the same fee of $6?

So for you, downgrade to a lessor package, and return one 722. There are always ways to cut the cost:)

OK, this is what I am not understanding. If we are getting charged $6 DVR fee, how and why are you deducting it from the $17.00 charge? The $5 deduction checks for A/0. With my two 722s, I calculate a total $18.00 (6+17-5). Which puts me at $6.00 more than today.

READ post #1 in this thread. IF you look at the way he figures the bill he clearly says that they will credit you the extra dvr fees off the equipment charge. You will have a dvr charge of 6.00 added to your account regardless of what programming you have come February 1st. But if you do the math the way the DISH csr says it in Post #1 it would come out to just 6.00 for the extra dvr on your account.

17.00 equipment charge
06.00 minus the dvr fee since they eliminated the extra dvr fees
05.00 minus the A/0 fee if you keep your phone line plugged in
------------------------------------------------------------------
$6.00 total for the extra dvr.

I have asked Scott if the DISH csr in post #1 figured it out the right way and he said it was figured that way by several csrs and it came out to 30.00 increase for him. Now I figured his bill using this same method of figuring and it came out to 30.00 as well.

Scott said he had 6 hd duo dvrs. The first one is not charged anything but the dvr fee of 6.00. The other 5 dvrs x 17.00=85.00.

85.00 equipment fee - 5 x 17.00
30.00 minus the extra dvr fees- 5 x 6.00
25.00 minus the A/0 fee for keeping phone lines plugged in- 5x 5.00
-----------------------------------------------------------
$30.00 extra for the 5 hd duo dvrs

This is the way the DISH csr in post #1 figured it. Now you would have to pay the dvr fee of 6.00 but we are figuring the extra cost for the extra equipment charges.

I pay $34.99 (absolute w/ locals) + $5.98 (DVR) + $5.99 (DHPP - need to cancel that) + taxes now with one 722, about, about $54.00 total. Looks Like $62.99 for classic silver 200 including locals. So they are losing the dvr fee? So if I upgrade to Silver 200, my price will only go up about $7.00? Can't be right, I'm missing something.

Your absolute why would you change? Until they get tons more stuff that absolute doesn't get I sure as L won't be changing programming. :D

So I'm looking at around $12 in new charges? 211, and 2-622's and AEP. Increase in second 622 plus a DVR fee for the account which was waived under the old pricing.
