DISH Press Conference Notes

Interesting.

The video resolution states 1080p60.

All prior generations have 1080p24.

Does that mean Dish is going to be sending down 1080p60 content for VODs now? I image the receiver would have to convert 1080p24 VODs to 1080p60?

If in deed it is $200 to $300 i wonder how many people who got the Hopper 1 will pay another $200/$300 to get the Hopper 2 Kinda of stinks i just got updated to the Hopper 1 last month now the new one comes out. Maybe Dish will give the ones with the Hopper 1 a discount on the Sling Adapter

Of course there are folks who have not made the initial upgradt toa Hopper and are still using VIP receivers----or older.

Why wouldn't they release a new Hopper with more tuners? Am I the only one who wouldn't get by with just 2 Hoppers?

There can't be 2 million hoppers out there.

With 13 million customers that would mean that like 17% of their entire customer base has a hopper.

I bet the numbers are more like 200,000 homes
I call that "marketing hype". They can exaggerate all they want with no worries... Even if you take the 2 million number and presume each household (on average) has 1-H and 1-J, you're still at 1 million homes, that's almost 8%. That number is maybe believable but still high, I think...

They seem to be quite content with 3 tuners. You want more tuners buy another hopper.More profit for them.

Because contrary to the opinion you may get from around these parts, a) Dish KNOWS that for the majority of their customers <<= key part, (3) tuners is sufficient, or b) provide (2) Hoppers for those rare cases where (3) isn't enough.

The original Hopper had sling with the sling adapter so nothing new.
Still external OTA
Still 3 tuners
Still requires MOCA connections
Still requires wired Joeys.

This supports your comment about nothing so dramatically new, vis a vis Hopper 1, but... If I understood what others have been reporting around here, the MOCA connection is not required, nor are wired Joeys.

D*'s Genie has 5 tuners? You would think they would have at least tried to match.

I believe Vivek stated at the press conference that the new Hopper has a Broadcom chip that is twice as fast as the chip in the Hopper v1.

This suggests that the old Hopper would only take twice as long to transcode as does Hopper 2, should Dish decide to backport their Transfer App.

Give me my 5 tuner HR34 over the 3 tuner Hopper any day. I do like the fact that even with 3 TVs watching different channels we can still record 2 with no conflict. I was hoping to hear that E* would have matched the 5 tuner deal or even gone further without the need for a 2nd Hopper.

get ready to flame me, but how many threads have to be started for the "new" hopper, and why are they not in in the hopper zone????

flame on
