Dish off in storm, permanently?

Same here. This late in the year, being booked out almost 2 weeks still is unheard of. (I hope Claude is paying attention lol).

I think he called a retailer and not Dish. The retailer likely pushed it out that far in hopes the customer would figure it out himself.

I don’t believe Dish could be booked for installs 2 weeks solid. Nobody wants dish that bad.

Seriously, you're just wrong on this one. I've never seen it this busy in the 15 years I've worked for Dish. Installs, upgrades, service calls.. Doesn't matter. Been going like this for months. I don't think the OP called a retailer, because he said Dish offered to send him a replaced receiver. Retailers won't do that, will they?

Dude, we all get our jobs FROM Dish and the entire country is at least 10 days out. Our Columbus, OH office is booked out almost a month

I used to send receivers all the time to avoid sending techs out.

Depending on the customer I would send them from my inventory or I would call Dish and pay the $15 myself.

$15 was cheaper than paying a tech $60 to do a trouble call or swap a box.

Only because Directv lost locals and everyone is pissed at AT&T right now. Yeah I know the dispute was settled almost 2 weeks ago but I’m still talking to customers who don’t realize the locals are back.

Even Comcast is super busy, some areas like Mobile Alabama out 3 weeks on install.

I bet you 80% of those are Directv or AT&T customers.

Sad the customers are not going to realize the grass is not greener on the other side after they signed the contract.

How many of these customers realize they went from not getting a few local channels that they could get for free OTA, to not getting their regional sports networks.

That and the fact the customer now has antiquated kangaroo technology in their home, they are in for a ride they will soon regret

I was with you until your last sentence. Antiquated indeed. It far surpasses anything else out there. You lose all integrity when you continue to make statements like that.

Claude, 99% of my new connects for the last 3 YEARS have been replacing DTV. I give it 2 years and I bet money, DTV is a memory. They have zero plan for the future - besides raising everyone's bills every 3 months - something they probably learned from COMCAST, the most evil of all evil companies. The evil that taught other cable companies how to be evil

My point exactly, 99% of the customers coming from Directv thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

If Dish is really that busy, why do they continue to bleed customers every month?

Think of it, every new customer you install, one customer leaves the kangaroo community.

99% of my business is Comcast residential, with the remaining sales being Spectrum and Directv commercial such as businesses, hotels and assisted living. So no way am I for Directv like I used to be.

AT&T really screwed up Directv residential, which is why I don’t sell residential anymore.

To say Dish is any better? HELL NO! You simply have people running away from Directv as fast as they can and all they know is satellite, which is why Dish seems like the logical choice. They think they hate cable, but they can only remember how bad it once was and don’t know it’s way better today than it ever was.

But until Dish becomes a true internet provider or gets their 5G game together, then the real winner here is the cable companies.

With the channel disputes, the pure arrogance of dish network upper management, it’s like a wolf in kangaroo clothing

Arrogance? Like not wanting to pay guaranteed subscriber rates for HBO? Or make 90% of Subs pay for 10% who watch RSN'S?? That is SO arrogant!! OMG! Financial security is mostly about, but not only about subscribers. Dish has other revenue streams. What does Direct have?? Nothing and didn't someone just post that DTV lost a million subs in the last year? I think that's almost 3 times what Dish lost? My buddy installs for DTV and he's been there for 4 years. Says he can count on 2 hands how many times he works past 3PM. 6 days?? Never!

If you remove people who've been cut off for non-payment and switching to a different provider, I would like to see who is gaining the most customers over the course of a year, so that blips, like contract negotiations aren't so profound

There is more to the HBO dispute than we are aware of. Why is it that Dish is the only provider who does not carry HBO?

Then let’s look at the Fox Sports dispute and the rumors that Dish is considering dropping them for good.

But then again, why should Dish give into HBO’s demands, trying to keep the rates down for everyone, Dish not being treated fairly, Dish is fighting for you, blah, blah, blah...

I have been hearing the same sob story come out of Charlie’s mouth for 15 years every time there is a dispute.

So what’s the deal? Every time they have a dispute now they are just going to drop the channel?

It’s getting old!

Maybe you don’t watch HBO, maybe you don’t care about Sports, but eventually they will take your favorite channel away in the name of fighting for what is right for the customer, and then you will see I was right about them all along for the past 8 years.

Arrogance? Not only program disputes, the General way they treat their employees, retailers, sub contractors. Even customers who are smart enough to leave the service get screwed in the end.

No other provider charges customers to ship their equipment back. No other provider even would dare ask for an LNB to be returned that they know darn well is installed on a roof 85% of the time.

But then again, if you don’t complain and ask for the fee to be waived, it’s another $50 they tack on the final bill.

That’s arrogance!

I’m not saying Directv is any better, but they have always shown far more respect for their employees, retailers and customers.

Directv’s only problem is that they always discounted their programming, and after many years it’s come to the point where it’s time for most people to pay regular rates, and people aren’t accepting the fact the honey moon is over.

But bring in this industry for over 20 years, all the new subscribers for Dish and Directv these days are customers flip flopping from one satellite company to the other. The customers need to be coming from cable, but instead you got Dish and Directv beating up each other and the cable companies are coming behind and claiming all the casualties of war.

Like I said a few days ago, Dish should just drop ESPN and get rid of sports all together and be done with it.

They really also need to stop running the ads for NFL Red Zone trying to trick people into thinking they actually care about Football.

I understand people wanting internet from the cable companies, it can't be beat. But they are ALL so far behind Dish technology-wise, it's not even close. My customers who switch to cable, almost always regret it and come back for that reason. They can't even come up with a whole home dvr system..

I watch HBO. I stream it through Amazon Prime - which is coming to the Hopper. And I'm a HUGE Sports fan. But I'm also a huge fan of not giving in to extortionist practices by the content providers. As for why it's only Dish that doesn't carry HBO, let's see, WHo owns HBO? And who owns DTV? Who is DTV's direct competition? Hmmmm, I wonder......
