DISH NETWORK PRESENTS OWN: OPRAH WINFREY NETWORK

Englewood, Colo. – Jan. 1, 2011 - DISH Network announced today the launch of OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, a channel designed to entertain, inform and inspire people to live their best lives. Beginning today, OWN will be available on channel number 189 to DISH Network customers who subscribe to the America’s Top 200 programming package or above.

“We are excited to add OWN to our lineup as we are committed to delivering the highest quality programming to our customers,” said Dave Shull, senior vice president of Programming for DISH Network. “It’s important to note that Discovery and Oprah have made a substantial investment to ensure the success of this new channel, and we are thrilled to bring programs that are meaningful, worthwhile and of substance to our subscribers and to Oprah’s loyal fan base.”

Shows include: “Ask Oprah’s All Stars,” featuring Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Mehmet Oz answering viewer questions about health, wealth and mental well-being; “Oprah Presents Master Class,” highlighting inspiring stories from Jay-Z, Simon Cowell, Sidney Poitier, Dr. Maya Angelou, Diane Sawyer, Lorne Michaels, Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Oprah Winfrey; “Season 25: Oprah Behind The Scenes,” and “Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star,” pitting 10 contestants against each other though a series of challenges to win the ultimate prize of their own TV show on OWN. Additional information on OWN programming can be found at Welcome to the official website of OWN - the Oprah Winfrey Network - OWN TV.

Additionally, OWN will feature popular movies and original documentaries including the critically acclaimed, award-winning “Precious,” as well as “Family Affair,” “Sons of Perdition,” and “Life 2.0.” OWN is also producing original two-hour documentaries with Julia Roberts, Forest Whitaker, Gabriel Byrne and Mariel Hemingway.

She was boring on network TV, having won that title more than 15 years ago.

She managed to screw up millions of American Housewives, who in turn screwed up countless millions of their children, made everyone hypersensitive to real-life and made billions in the process.

Now she's on Dish Network.

Congrats to the brain-trust who proved, once again, they cannot think.

Just like the pay-per-view and porn channels - another one to block.

Hmm, I am hearing all this buzz about a new channel but nothing new shows up in my guide under "All HD." Must not be important then...

This sounds about as big a deal as all those free encore channels Dish has available this month, well until I found out "all those encore channels" was actually one encore channel that I'd even bother to view in the guide in hopes of maybe tuning in once before it is gone.

Maybe Charlie Chuckles thinks this makes up for taking off both, I repeat BOTH, ABC and FOX in the Macon, Ga. area.

OWN - who knew so much stupidity could fit into such little bandwidth?

I saw a "segment" on NBC Nightly News on OWN and Oprah Winfrey. However, unless I was not paying attention, I did not hear anything about her and Oxygen. I really thought that she had something to do with the start of Oxygen unless I am mistaken.

I don't think OWN is geared toward the average reader of this site. Plus, it's not in HD. What's the point of adding a new channel in standard def. only? Makes no sense to me!

It replaces discovery health.

Oprah co-founded the Oxygen network in 2000 but resigned from the board of directors because the network did not reflect "her voice". According to a NYT article this weekend, getting OWN to reflect her voice hasn't been cheap. She's sunk $100 million into the launch but it still wasn't enough, leading Discovery to invest more money in the startup.

It's not he worst channel on DISH. I'll take it over the dozens of shopping channels, sham preacher channels, info con-mmerical channels and MSLSD any day.

Oprahzilla is taking over and growing bigger by the hour.
Soon you all will be emasculated and have to jump up and down on a couch to express yourself.
Then be sent of to Dr.Phil internment camps for evaluation and deprogramming.
Once the entire evil plan is complete. All males will have a velcro attachable scrotum that can be removed at a womans will.
We will be left completely defenseless and obedient.

Dish does not have a choice on this. Discovery is changing the format of one of their channels. Dish is under contract to carry the channel. Now perhaps when the channels come up for renewal Dish could fight them to drop the channel, but as we know the channel providers are usually all or nothing and will force carrriage anyways.

Stop making sense! You are taking away anything the whiners have to complain about concerning Dish airing the channel!
