DISH NETWORK FIRST TO BROADCAST SPORTS EVENT VIA INTERACTIVE TV MOSAIC

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Sept. 6, 2005 – EchoStar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ: DISH) and its DISH Network satellite TV service today announced an interactive mosaic that allows viewers to watch and choose six different camera angles during select sporting events. DISH Network will broadcast TBS College Football Extra each Saturday through Nov. 5 on its interactive TV channel DISH Home, CH. 100.

This marks the first time a pay-TV service provider has nationally broadcast a sports event in the United States with multiple camera angles and interactive capabilities. DISH Network customers can view any camera angle with full audio or go directly to the full screen channel they select. Angles include high end zone, low end zone, goal post, reverse slash, reverse low end zone, and the regular channel 139 TBS network feed.

DISH Network launched the technology with a broadcast of the Colorado State-Colorado game Sept. 3.

“TBS College Football Extra on DISH Home allows our viewers to take control of how they watch the game,” said Jody Martin, senior vice president of Marketing for DISH Network. “DISH Home will influence the way people watch sports, reinforcing our goal to deliver Better TV for All.”

DISH Network is the largest U.S. provider of interactive TV programs and the world leader in the number of interactive TV-enabled homes, with more than 20 interactive channels, serving over 10 million customers respectively.

The new features on DISH Home were developed in partnership with OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ: OPTV) utilizing its interactive-TV middleware technology. DISH Network customers with the following OpenTV-enabled receivers can see the new DISH Home: Model 3900, 4900, DISH 111, 301, 311, 322, DISH Player – DVR 501, 508, 510, 522, 721, DISH 811 and DISH Player-DVR 942.

Yes Dish did a good job on this one, I was kind of amazed the all of the windows were perfectly synced. Good job to the Dish Interactive guys!!

Now if only they showed meaningful games using this I'd be interested!!

Its kinda like HDNet showing college football. I can watch it for like 10 minutes, just because its in HD... :)

Good move by the Dish crew.

It's a new service, but I'm sure that with time it will spread to more games and more sports on more channels.

Hey, how about different camera angles for tennis and basketball, for example.

So does this show up in channel 100 in place of the six that are usually there, or somewhere else?

If we're going to dream about other sports, I'll take the "low end zone" and "reverse low end zone" views for beach volleyball.:D

How about this? Have an option where you can turn off the announcers and hear more crowd noise. And turn it back on again at will.
Little Jimmy gets an ear-full of a chemically imbibed fan using every swear word and describing sex acts the umpire performs on farm animals. The FCC fines TBS for each offensive utterance. I just don't see this happening.

Dish Digital Home Advantage for existing customers?

ends for rg6
