Hi,

I've taken the advice of the forum members here (thank you) and decided to setup a motorized dish for picking up the Galaxy etc.. FTA satellite signals.

There might be possibility that if the satellite moves too far south east, there is some siding sticking out and I'm a bit worried that the dish will hit it. (I can fix this without a problem just by adding in a few inches (2 by 4 or whatever) under the main wall mount bracket to solve that).

However, I only really need south west, I'm wondering if I can only program the motor with the receiver to move to certain satellites, or will it move and scan on its own?

Thanks for the feedback!

The dish and motor will only move to the satellites you select. You have control. In the receiver, you will only enable the motor on the satellites you wish to view.

I would try to find a spot that gives you the most coverage of the arc as possible to begin with :) However, even with limited coverage, the answer is yes: you can program your receiver for certain satellites and set limits for the motor (also through the receiver). That being said, from Toronto, the only major satellite you would get in the East direction is 30W. 72W is only slightly SE for you, but you'd still want to try and get that one. Nothing major between 72 and 30, so I think a South to Southwest swing on the arc would be good enough. Getting a motor install done right takes a lot of trial and error, but well worth it :)

I would also recommend that you use the USALS method to track the sats. It is very accurate and takes the guess work out of finding your favourite sats.

please show us pictures about this.
what motor did you get ?
would never step up a motor where it could not go in both directions fully as it might just take off out of control on it's own for many reasons.
if you have added to the "wall mount bracket" just make sure you end up square everywhere.
good luck
