Hi everyone. My first post here. My issue isn't really technically related...it's more of a contract issue regarding local channels. I'm looking for any advise how to handle this situation with Dish. I signed a 24 month agreement in January 2009. Here's my situation.
I've been a Dish subscriber in Northwest Ohio for over 4 years now. Classic Bronze 100 Plus with locals. Until the last 2 weeks, I would say that overall I have been pleased with Dish. Right now, I'm very unsatisfied. Here's my situation: When I first signed up 3 years ago I had a choice between Toledo and Columbus local channels. I selected Toledo. Everything was cool. Recently I've heard that a city nearer to me, Lima, now had their channels offered as local channels on Dish. Naturally, I'd like to get the more local channels. Two weeks ago I phoned Dish and requested that my locals be changed from Toledo to Lima. The Dish customer service rep. said that within 20 minutes, I'd see the effective changes. She mentioned NOTHING of a required hardware upgrade. I checked my system an hour later...the Toledo channels were gone, but I had no Lima channels. So I called Dish back and got a different technician. This technician pulled up my account, saw the locals change was made, but now told me that a hardware upgrade would be required and that she'd be happy to setup an appointment with a service tech within a week. Fabulous...now no NFL on Sunday. I asked her if it was possible to switch me back to Toledo since I wasn't advised that a hardware change would be required. She responded that this wasn't possible, since the FCC now has the requirement to use the more local channels. I thought this was ridiculous. I asked for and got to speak with the customer service manager on-duty...his response was the same. Fed up I scheduled the hardware upgrade for yesterday. Upon arrival, the service tech said 'yes, you need a new dish' to pickup a third satellite to access the Lima channels and then proceeded to tell me that there isn't a site on my property clear of trees on which the new satellite will work. Less spending $1000 to have the neighbors trees cut-down (which isn't an option), I'm stuck in a 24 month contract without access to any ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, channels PBS channels.
Right now I feel that Dish should give my Toledo channels back or allow the contract to be terminated, since they can no longer deliver the agreed upon package. Am I out of line here?
Secondly, I don't know the right path to present this issue to Dish. The 'robotic' technicians on the telephone offer me no help, except to repeatedly tell me that they are locked by the FCC requirements.
Any help or suggestions (besides the tree cutting option ) are greatly appreciated. I can't accept paying for but not receiving CBS, ABC, NBC, or Fox for the next year.
Thanks!
