Dish HD vs Disney (DISH sort of won...)

Netflix has all the Phineas and Ferb's in HD. They don't have the most current episodes of season 3 as it takes about 15 days or longer before they can stream it but they do have over 70 episodes available with all of season 1 & 2. As I said before I am use to not having Disney in HD and get much of the Disney shows and movies in HD on Netflix. They don't have every show but they do carry most of them as they do most of the movies.
 
I have been watching ESPN U all weekend, for the College Baseball Super Regionals, and noticed that the Dish ESPN U SD feed, is now the HD feed (side banners and all), down-converted (they even had the ESPN U HD logo at times during the games). So, if ESPN U HD and SD are the same feed, doesn't this make, for at least this channel, this lawsuit moot? Also, there is a game replay on right now that shows what I am talking about.
 
There is no more ESPN SD, that's why. Anyone watching in SD, is getting the HD feed. While some channels do this sometimes, ESPN no longer gives an SD feed.

Then what exactly is the lawsuit about? I thought it was because Disney was charging individually for the SD and HD feeds. If they are the same feed, how is that possible (or reasonable)? Now I am more confused than before...

they weren't getting paid for the carriage of the HD channels as Dish thought the carriage deal to air those channels meant they would be able to broadcast the HD version for free as long as they were paying for the SD signal, but Disney wanted Dish to pay a separate feed for the HD signal, it really wasn't much of an issue until Dish started doing the "Free HD For Life" promotion. so that's why Disney has a grudge with Dish, Dish really owes Disney in back payments for the months/years of carriage of the HD signal that Dish didn't pay for. so basically both companies are in the wrong for this, Dish for illegally carrying these channels without paying for them, that's call grand theft folks. and Disney's in the wrong for being greedy and demanding Dish to pay up a feed way to expensive for Cheapo Charlie's price range to continue carrying a channel.

They do want to. You are concentrating on ESPN only. Obviously for ESPN there no longer is that issue, unless Disney wants to charge a higher fee because it is HD.
In the case of the actual Disney channels, they are still broadcasting in both SD, and HD. Disney wants to charge a second fee for the HD.

Actually the judge agreed with Dish that the Disney contract gave Dish the right to show the HD versions without extra charge. Disney is currently appealing.

Dish was paying Disney late, Disney won interest on the late payments.

So, the appeal is going on and probably no resolution on this until the appeal is complete.

Well that's a good question. Now that there is no SD, can Dish transmit the HD feed they are getting, in HD?

You can't make your head spin, I think Disney trademarked it after buying the rights from "The Exorcist." :)
 
Anybody know when the Disney contract is actually up for renewal? We are on the America Silver package, so we've been without these channels completely for this entire dispute (we'd be fine with the SD version, but we get nothing). Disney was one of the most watched channels in our house with 2 kids; Phineas & Ferb was by far their favorite show. We're out of contract and just about at our limit on waiting for these channels to come back. We could upgrade to Top 200 or get Netflix, but money is tight and we can't justify spending more than we already do. The Silver package has everything else that is a "must have" for us, but honestly, after the most recent price hike, it seems a bit high for all the channels we don't get. Considering switching to D* if this is not resolved soon; the money we would save on promotional offers would offset the regular package price difference for several years.

I don't see this getting settled for six months minimum. If you need Disney that bad, go ahead and switch. There will be more appeals to drag this out longer.

You could switch to AT120 or higher and still maintain HD For Life and receive the main Disney channels for a cheaper price per month.:)

I knew sooner or later this bad economy would hit me,well it just did last month and that's why my Dish Network is such a great value because of their low programming costs compared to other providers.;)
 
Just spoke to a Dish Customer rep that said the Disney/ESPN SD channel contracts expire at the end of the month. He said that they expect Disney HD, Disney XD HD, ABC Family HD, and ESPNews HD to be returned within the month as this is part of the negotiations. Any one else heard this?

fingers crossed for this as this is more important to keep Disney happy to keep the ESPN networks on Dish, and i hope the Longhorn network is placed there so that way the Longhorns are carried on Dish all season long and i hope the channel is an RSN for Texas only like Big Ten Network is to states where teams in the Big Ten call home (except Nebraska for now as they just joined the Big Ten)

also ESPN is about to take over with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series coverage as this weekend's race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway is TNT's last race of the 2011 season.
