Anyone notice an improvement this week? I thought the PQ on the NFL Network Thursday night was outstanding, and the ESPNs have also been much better. Even some of the SD channels seem a little bit better than before (although they still suck overall).

Maybe they heard the complaints about ESPN lately...

ESPN looks bad on all providers I have directv, dish and cox cable and all look bad.

As far as pq looking better dish is always upgrading their mpeg4 encoded. So yes something may have changed for the better.

I can't say it's better across the board, but two to three weeks ago it was terrible. So yes, some channels seem to be better.

Hmm... I never noticed the PQ issues a few weeks ago that people mention... Then again I haven't been watching a lot of TV recently, but I can safely say that as of this moment my PQ is great :) .

I think it is weather and atmospheric conditions, this summer it will be back to normal mediocrity. ron

I guess that was sarcasm?

PQ has nothing to do with weather. You either have a picture or you don't. That's the beauty of digital television with forward error correction.

Well I think DISH puts more bandwidth into the locals, but comparing NBC HD OTA to NBC HD on DISH looked practically the same to me. I think the locals on DISH look better than the nationals though.

And some of the premium movie channels are getting the short end of the stick. I know HBO and Starz sends out decent quality. But, Dish manages to make it their own and look like 480P.

Not sure what Starz you're looking at, but I'm watching Starz East on DISH, and your statement couldn't be any further from the truth.

Angels and Demons? It doesn't look all that great to me. You must be one of those people who never seen good satellite PQ to begin with and don't know any better. Am i right?

No, I only watch Blu-ray movies every other day, that's all. Guess that's 480p too compared to "good satellite PQ?"

I'm not saying it's perfect, or compares to blu-ray, but I still think that it's quite a bit better than 480p.

Really, put your receiver on 480p in the set up menu. And see if you notice a "big" diference. I used too. But, the difference from now and back then has shrunk.

Okay, just did that. 480p looked like a DVD. 1080i looked like HD.

EDIT: Even tried 720p. Difference was still quite noticeable. More noticeable between 480p and 720p than 720p and 1080i.
