dish hd & numbered channels

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this question - but why does Dish have so many channel numbers for the same programs on their hd packages? Are they all the same or are they different as far as quality & sound?

All those channel numbers map back to the same signal on the satellite. No difference between them, because they're all really the same signal.

The map down makes it easier to find the channels, you can change the receivers setup to show what you want it to show.

The mapping allows some to get their HD channels mapped over the SD number they are used to.
It also allows different packages to get blocks of channels with different permissions.
The map down can be turned off but the package blocks are red on all channels if unsubscribed.
