Dish HD Locals Update

Has anyone heard locals in HD for Duluth, Minnesota mentioned? It was on the chart of upcoming locals in hd on the last Charlie Chat, but I havn't heard anything.

E12 is already up at 61.5 right now but is not in spotbeam mode. AMC-14 will allow the bird to switch over and kick into full spot beam mode. There is a beam that points to the Jackson, MS and New Orleans, LA area. If the locals are put here then yes you will need a dish at 61.5. Your Dish 1000 can not see 61.5 from its current location.
Assuming the HD locals for Jackson, MS DMA are put at 61.5 and I need an additional dish, will Dish give me a break on the dish and installation since I've never needed the 61.5 feed? A newbie here to the forums. Excited to learn that HD for Jackson is around the corner, but dismayed that I need to change my setup somewhat.

It's pretty much a guarantee they are going to 61.5 right now.

As for the equipment costs... I haven't seen any releases yet.

Looking at the map of the HD locals to be added "Starting in April", the Austin, Tx DMA is the farthest west. Does anyone know if this DMA can/will be served from 61.5? Or is it just too far west?

FWIW I have a Dish 1000 so I'd love to hear that the Austin DMA will be served by 129 :)

61.5 is CONUS, all depends if you have LOS, several folks in CA use it. Austin is 37 degrees elevation to 61.5.

Thanks digiblur. I knew you would know about these things.

From what you know and/or suspect, do you think all 22 of the HD locals listed in the recent Charlie Chat as "Starting in April" will be severed from 61.5? I ask because AFAIK the current Texas HD local DMAs are served by 110.

Thanks in advance - Talon Dancer

Edit: Never mind. The new up link report has the Austin HD Locals on 61.5, at least for now.

I'm so glad that I have 61.5/110/119/129 coming in. I know the current Austin SD locals are on 119....

I wonder if they will add the Austin HD locals there or on 61.5 or some place else.

I guess we'll find out in April :)

...I guess we'll find out in April :)....
Actually if you read the Charlie Chat slides carefully they only say that Dish will add these 22 new HD local markets "Starting in April". So Dish can live up to this statement by adding only ONE HD local DMA on April 30th. The others can be added "soon":(

I'd like to believe that the Austin HD locals will be available in April, but... I once believed Dish would have the Austin HD locals in 2006 like I had read. Silly me.

129 Does have some room on it still, so it is possible some of the coming soon markets could end up on 129. Austin could be one of those markets, but it looks like there is a spot beam on 61.5 that would cover it. I suspect most of the yellow dot markets shown on the Charlie Chat are from 61.5 and most the blue ones will be from 129. But, some markets could go either way (like the blue dot in Maine is probably 61.5).

What happened to Beaumont ,Texas hd locals starting in April? I saw them mentioned in the #1 post in this thread and now no mention at all on the Charlie Chat.

They had previously discussed adding several DMA(6?) by April.

I agree. And I hope at least several of the 22 DMAs will come live in April. But I suspect the actual wording on the slides "Starting in April" is purposely duplicitous*.

The wording on the slides can be read that all 22 DMAs will be available to subscribers "Starting in April" (i.e. in April all 22 DMAs will have local HD available). A true optimist would expect all 22 on..... you guessed it, April fools day. Or the wording can be read that these 22 DMAs will "Start" to become available to subscribers "in April" (i.e. the HD locals for at least one of these DMAs will be available sometime in April). The later interpretation leaves plenty of wiggle room for Charlie and co.

FWIW I suspect reality will fall somewhere in between these two extremes.

* BTW any good advertising copy writer knows how to mislead without lying -- it's their job :)

OTOH several of these DMAs were uplinked to 61.5 today. So who knows?

WFTV which is listed used to be Duluth, but shut down in the 60's.
The call sign was later picked up by the ABC affiliate in Orlando.

The ones on the Charlie Chat were the ones they are probably all ready to roll. They probably have the fiber ready, the uplinks ready, etc. They will probably switch on fast. The rest of the markets will be added as things get accomplished (like encoders, fiber, uplink capacity, etc).

Hrm he says:
5090 - KVUE [MPEG4 HD] added to Echostar12 61.5 TP 05 Spotbeam 3? (Not Available)
5091 - KEYE [MPEG4 HD] added to Echostar12 61.5 TP 05 Spotbeam 3? (Not Available)
5092 - KXAN [MPEG4 HD] added to Echostar12 61.5 TP 05 Spotbeam 3? (Not Available)
5093 - KTBC [MPEG4 HD] added to Echostar12 61.5 TP 05 Spotbeam 3? (Not Available)
Those are ALL 4 Austin Locals, including the recalcitrant LIN TV affliate (KXAN).

Good News :)
