Dish HD install at 9:45PM?!

Just another update. Installer showed up today, just barely spoke any English. Said trees were to close to the back of the house and would not install dish. I'll take some pics later of the parents tree line and would like to get some feedback from others here.

Pictures are not the best way to judge LOS. Trust me, you'll get people who'll say it will work....

Regardless, you can request a 2nd (and 3rd) opinion or install attempt.

If you want to check LOS yourself, just call DISH and get the settings for your zip code or post your zip here and we'll tell you. Then, get a 2x4 thats about 6 foot long and miter a cut in it that's just a couple degrees less than your elevation settings. Hold the 2x4 out at arm's length and make sure its standing level, then check by eyeing up the miter cut you made and seeing if you see any trees past the cut line. Just treat the miter cut like an iron sight on a gun. If you would shoot a tree, you don't have LOS. If you would fire over the tops, you're good.

I'm no expert when it comes to line of site for these Dishes, but it seems there would be a few branches in the way. But the installer said there would only be one satellite in view? And that the HD satellite would definitely not be in view.

This was the last straw for the parents, they canceled Dish and went with New Wave HD.

I think if you dont get the answer the first time i would call and ask for a second and/or third opinion. Especially if the person that came the first time just didnt want to do the install. My install was a tricky install because of some trees in the distance BUT moving dish less than 2 feet and raising it another 2 feet. The installer actually cared about the customer and got it right the first time HE came out.

When I go on a second opinion no LOS..(they always pick me) I have found that there are different kinds of no LOS..Ones where there really is no line of site...And those that are clear now but within a year or two of growth, the LOS is gone..There are those which need maybe one tree trimmed/removed. I NEVER tell a customer to remove trees. I am not taking on that liability. The of course there are bordrline No LOS that the tech just didn't want to do the job...Was at one about a month ago....guy told me the guy couldn't see a dish going on..I was there thirty seconds and found one for a pole mount and one on the roof..

Do I need to repoint my dish farm??
