Dish HD DVR Reciever

I have a 625 SD DVR and would like to upgrade to a HD DVR. A single TV - HD operation is fine with me. I have two questions:
1. Is there anyway I can use the hard drive in my existing DVR in the HD DVR? I dont mind dismantling the 625.
2. If I use a Solo VIP 211K, can I just add an external Hard-drive to convert to a DVR or I need to buy a Solo DVR VIP 612?

You are better off leaving the 625 in tact a making a little money off it IF you own it. HD is not as large as the HD DVRs.

Yes, adding a EHD to the 211 will give you DVR capability. The choice of that route or the 612 is completely yours. 612s have a less than stellar reputation, especially with OTA reception.
