DISH FORCING me to get a TECH visit for a receiver swap !!!!

At the end of March ends phase one of the equipment swap out. Phase two will be swapping out other equipment that was not included in Phase one. :)

I recently set up a upgrade to my other Hopper 2000 to a HWS as I have two Hoppers at this time and was told the same new dish needed for eastern arc.

I am a bit concerned as initially when I had the Hopper installed it was a mess and they wanted to put another dish up as in two then they were able to work off of western arc so I hope when I upgrade moving to eastern arc causes no issues not sure why I need to go to eastern arc

LET THE RUMORS BEGIN!

Digital subchannels! LOL Just joking. Although it would be nice, I think it would take up a lot of space. A main channel of each digital subchannel
would probably make more sense; however, sometimes locals use the other subchannel to carry regular programming when breaking news or special events occur.

If there is to be elimination of duplication of Locals on WE/EA, then that is a problem for RVers. A lot of RV receiving dishes are designed for WA only, like the Tailgater and the Winegard Trav'ler SK1000. What is an RVer to do in a EA territory? This is wht DNS is needed by RVers and truckers.

I really don't think the idea here is that all locals will be on one arc, but rather that any given DMAs locals will be on only one of the two arcs.

That's what I am saying, that will be a problem and I don't know what percentage, but some percentage of customers will be lost. I would not be able to get DISH or at the least locals in Tampa if the EA were the only location for the locals. It's one thing when people can't sign up because they can not see the locals, quite another when existing customers have their locals yanked from being on two ARCs to be on only one ARC that ARC can not be seen. In fact Tampa is a great example that location in the U.S is not connected to what ARC is better to get because besides line of site, installs there and I'm sure some other areas of Florida were changed a few years ago from the standard being the EA to WA because rainfade is less on WA.

So since I already have hopper equipment is is odd that they want me to switch to EA? Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys

When the tech was out to upgrade me to a super joey, he had on the work order to switch me from WA to EA. He got on the phone with whoever and lied to them saying there was no line of sight to the EA. Clearly there is, or at the very least he could have move the dish to get there. I didn't think anything of it.

Folks there is no need to worry about things. DISH is working on things in order to bring you more products and services you want. If they need to make a change to your configuration or equipment they will contact you. Until then sit back and enjoy your TV. There is nothing to get worried over.

If they do contact you, then let them do their work as when they are done with all the upgrades you are going to be even happier with DISH then you are now. A free upgrade is a nice thing and so are the benefits you get when the upgrades are complete. :D

That sounds like we're the Government and we are only here to help you..... :)

It's easy to say that, but it means a lot of tear up for some people. Back in the day, 119 was the only dish. Then it went 110/119. Then they added 61.5. Then they moved things to 129. Now they want us back to the east.

I don't know about the rest of you, but when i spend this much money on a house, i certainly get tired of people trying to drill holes in it.

It's easy to say it will be "better", but doesn't capture that different customers have different needs.

Dish may be assuming everyone wants hoppers and joeys and the latest bling HD whatever, but not everyone truly does want that.

I have 2 vip211's and one 311. i don't have hoppers or dish dvrs, or anything like that and don't intend to.

And western arc dishes tend not to load up with snow in this area. ONE time i had to clear a dish in 15 years.

so i have no real reason or incentive to move to east arc.

i can't really comprehend anything they may be trying to roll out that i just have to have.

Except in the government's case, they really are trying to help you. Dish is not doing anything out off the goodness of their heart. They're in it for your money, and the more the merrier (for them).

And you probably won't have to change anything. In fact most folks will not need to change a thing. :)

A lot of people are getting upset over nothing. For those with the older technology that will need an upgrade in the end they will be happy. :)

Darn right i wont notice anything. Because they're not moving my dish!

Ultimately Thats is up to you... but when channels start getting shuffled around and your not seeing them in your guide because you don't have the correct DISH you are going to be calling them upset.

Not sure why you are against it. I know if I took my car to the garage and they offered to give me a free tune up I would be all for it.

Not sure why your being stubborn, but in the end your only aggravating yourself. I would still take them up on their offer. :)

I'm being stubborn because as i mentioned in the original post, i can't see the eastern arc from where the dish is at, and i don't want the dish moved to where it WOULD see it because that would be in the front of my house. No thanks.

I can't really imagine California locals on the EA.

uhh no they would be on the western arc. What I mean is simulcasting of locals on both arcs. Not all markets are simulcast, but many are.For instance,Charlotte locals are on both arcs, likewise for Atlanta,if Dish only had to carry them on one arc, that will free up a lot of b/width.

It would be interesting how many customers would be lost if locals were only on one ARC for a given location for everyone. (I realize there are areas where that is true now)

Obviously they can't do it all it one fell swoop, here in my area they are trying to get most folks on eastern arc only.Even if they could consolidate 10 local markets, look at the space they have gained.

I really don't think the idea here is that all locals will be on one arc, but rather that any given DMAs locals will be on only one of the two arcs. That might not be applied to all DMAs, but there may be some (including the OP's) that are now on both arcs that are going to be dropped from one or the other in the near future.

Exactly what I was inferring.
