Dish Essential service for 9.00?

I received the essential package and the cinemax for a penny plus the free public interest programming.

Wow, I didn't know they would add Cinemax for a penny if you only get the Essentials package. That's great.

Only problem of particular sensitivity for former SA subs: Cinemax is sometimes called Skinamax due to the raunchy movies they play in the evening. You might want to use the special features of your receiver's guide to make some programs, if not some of the Cinemax channels, disappear altogether.

I took them up on their offer and have the same concerns. It's nice to finally see some movies I didn't care to pay for (a few were better than expected and I might buy the DVDs) but especially late night they have all this bogus porn that I don't care for at all.

I tried to ratings block it but it isn't working. Older receiver so maybe that's why. But at least I'm not that easily shocked and there are no kids in my home to get a distorted education in the art of love making. Can that content be any more corny or the acting be any worse?

LisaA, thanks for the detailed info about your switch. I am also a former SkyAngel DBS subscriber, but I have been busy lately with my father in the hospital, so I haven't had a chance to call DishNetwork and inquire about the essential service package. Thanks especially for the info about your dish, because that is the same kind I have and I was under the impression that I would need a different dish. I was wondering if there is a hook up fee? Were you able to successfully repoint your dish, or did you need someone to come and do it?

As a former SA subscriber I too made the switch to the Essentials Service yesterday (had signed up for Dish Family a few weeks ago) with locals & Cinemax all for $14.99 and was glad to see that I got to keep my free PI Pak which includes the Pentagon Channel on 61.5.

Save yourself a lot of grief and just ask for an account specialist to add the Essentials Service over the phone from the start, like someone else said.

It would be nice to have HD Essentials also in the future. But just a thought, even if they won't add it to your account with the Essentials Service couldn't you open a 2nd account with HD only? Maybe not a perfect solution, but seems like it should at least accomplish the goal.

And just a point of clarity I seem to have stumbled upon, if you say the Essentials package the reps tend to think you mean HD Essentials. If you say the Essentials service some will know you mean SD and others will either still think you mean HD or else will ask you what channels are included in that service. So again it seems like only the account specialists are all fully informed.

I figure it like this. They want their level I reps to push higher tier options and the Essentials service is more of a retention tool. The HD Essentials package is promoted to lure people in who have HD sets and are either fed up with cable or just have OTA service. My guess, anyway.

I want to thank you for informing us of the essental package. I had Sky Angel and they were leaving the air 4/1 so we had to do something. I love Hallmark which this plan included for 9.99. <snip> So, thanks again for informing us about these options this site is truly a blessing. Now I need to get a fta box to hook up for GloryStar.

We were SkyAngel Lifetime Subscribers. Everyone in the house over the age of 7 made a small sacrifice so we could take on the additional monthly bill.
In June I'm getting a raise and we'll all go back to our original status. I'll be glad to again treat myself to my Monday morning capuccino!

Boy, I wish I could get the essentials package with the standalone DishHD package.. the only thing I really need is Comedy Central, then I can dump my basic cable!
