DISH eastern/western arc install issue

Just had Dish installed. I was setting up hopper and Joey with tech and everything looked good. We sign everything and he asks why I left Dish in 2011. I tell him because of poor picture quality. He takes the opportunity to tell me not to expect HD locals because he had to point me at the western arc. He could probably get the eastern arc if he put the dish where I originally wanted it, but They would have to bring out a supervisor and place mount restraints on roof to install the dish to get the eastern arc.

My question: Why does western arc not offer HD at my location? Should I ask for reinstall?

If your HD locals are on the EA that is the dish they should have installed......I know dish is afraid to let their installers actually go on a roof, they would rather they work off their ladder.
Call and complain.

Assuming your locals are on 61.5, have the installer add a wing dish to point to that satellite. The elevation setting for this satellite is usually sufficient to avoid any blockage issues. Then you can have the western arc and your locals.

I don't understand the roof restraints for a wing dish.

If DISH techs have to get off their ladder and walk on the roof they're supposed to mount anchors into your roof and attach themselves to the anchors for safety. It's really a joke and makes for a bunch of extra holes in your roof. Local Retailers don't have to do this and can get you a great install done right.

The Western Arc is primarily for markets in the Western United States. If you live in the East, you're likely served by the Eastern Arc. A few large markets appear on both arcs.

The separation exists because three Ku satellites can't handle national programming along with all 210 local markets.

The seperate arcs mainly exists because the 129 couldn't be obtained in the eastern half of the country.
And adding Eastern arc eliminated the need for a wing dish on the East coasters HD package.

In NE TN here, that is considered east. We are a wa market, 129 is horrible for los at only 25.5 degrees on the horizon.

To the op I'd make them fix it. You have the option to modify receivers within 30 days of activation without penalty or fees. This should apply to the dish as well since it wasn't the right dish for your location.

They push these guys for completion rates and it ultimately hurts the customer.

I remember it being 10 days for the receiver, but there is a 60 day warranty for your Dish and installation. Get a tech back out there within 60 days, but first and foremost, contact a DIRT member to make sure your account is updated with the correct coding of which satellites you have, and that LOS is a possibility. If they marked it NLOS then you will get limited help on the phone. Take advantage of this precious and wonderful gift that is DIRT.

Complain about WHAT?....Because the tech reminded the customer of a safety regulation?....Look, Dish in house techs are no longer permitted on pitched roofs without installing a safety harness and tether system.
Therefore, installs where the tech would be required to leave his ladder to climb onto the roof are rescheduled.

Yeah, what they did is unacceptable. Tell them to come back it do it right....
The tech should have informed the customer of the issue and not done the work.
However, the tech has supervisors who are interested only in the "numbers" telling the techs to "get the job done".....So the tech gets crapped on by people like you or his supervisors.
Its a no win situation. This garbage is running all of the good experienced techs out of the business.

OSHA, isn't it? After that big CA?? OSHA sued the balls off Dish for this stuff, and although a drop in the bucket, was a charge that was preventable. OSHA also got them in the office for not paying when logged into a computer(honestly it may have been someone else, but I think it was OSHA). From the day after the lawsuit was settled, employees couldn't log into their computer except on time for their shift, and log out for lunch...not just lock the computer. It was miserable loading everything back up. People sued over likely $20 over a 5 year span that they missed out on.

Yes. OSHA for the safety stuff....And more than likely the law firm representing Dish's insurance carrier most likely advised Dish upper level management to go by the OSHA safety book.

The computer thing was supposed to make things more efficient. it backfired. Dish should get rid of them, but the company probably invested millions in the hardware and software. THat was probably something that went to a labor attorney that made a credible threat of a massive award for employees.

The computer thing is for phone CS. It was after the class action was settled by employees from the call centers. I was dead center for all of that, since it started in Phoenix.

OSHA doesn't sue -- they levy ridiculously large fines. The mine safety people are even worse.

That install should not have taken place unless the customer clearly agreed to not getting locals in HD. Even at that, if there is another reasonable way to do the install and get them in HD that should have been done. The need to call a supervisor to do it is a completely reasonable thing to expect. I would have told them to take it all away if they can't give me what I am supposed to get even if you signed unless that paperwork said there was no HD locals.

need dirt help i need to change my package
