And TiVo got awarded the trademark for PVR, which caused Dish and others to drop it from their products or any reference to it (remember the old 50X's had the center PVR button?). It was all about it being your PERSONAL Video Recorder. Just for you. Your very OWN TV recording system saving all YOUR PERSONAL favorite TV show. TV YOUR way. TV YOU control. Almost the next day (a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea) TiVo itself drops "PVR" from its nomenclature and begins using the common "DVR" reference just like everyone else. Why bother, TiVo? I think that people thought that PVR was somehow NOT a DVR, and TiVo probably had to just drop the "PVR"reference for marketing sake. Just a guess.
