DISH Drops AMC Networks (AMC Back on DISH channel 131)

I think this very long thread shows beyond a shadow of doubt that people just like to bitch! It would be interesting to see just how many of those complaining the loudest have ever watched one hour of any of programming from the channels that are about to be taken away.

I can only imagine the same will go for any Uverse forum about their contractual dispute and I see already in the Direct forum the angst people are displaying as supposedly, the contract with Rainbow is set to expire this fall.

We are talking about television! Newton Minow where are you when we NEED you?

Yeah you're right. We're all just complaining about channels we don't watch..... or maybe you don't watch them so you assume no one else does. AMC was a top 20 channel in ratings for the year. That means people watch it. Now I occasionally watch IFC but don't know that I've ever watched We or Sundance. I won't miss those but some people will. Bottom line is we are paying the same price for less.

Agreed, in my house AMC is watched often. The other ones not so much, but they do get watched. Interesting that someone would come on here complaining about other people complaining. If you don't watch the channels going away, great for you. For those of us that do, well we are getting the shaft.

I keep seeing posts about getting a refund or a reduction in bill for losing three channels. Forgetting many are not losing three channels, and in my opinion have better channels, lets go with everyone is losing three channels. Here's why you do not want a reduction in your bill or won't get one, now.

1. Did you get an increase in your bill every time Dish added a channel at the time they added it? No. And I don't want them to.

2. Over a period of time it probably evens out. Channels come, and they go, or you get added value with HD added.

3. When it comes time to raise rates, and especially in this economy, Dish can raise rates less than they would have if in the end they do have less of a programming cost then before. OR - it might allow them to negotiate a higher cost than they really want to, without raising rates over it, but it's a channel they really can't lose.

4. There is also getting something else in return if you call. I saw someone got a month of a premium channel. Not sure that's so good, but it probably is more monetarily than you lost in those channels

Counter point.

We pay Dish over $100 monthly to cover all of our tv wants/needs.Three of my favorite shows are being taken away from me.Breaking Bad,Walking Dead, and Hell on Wheels. In order to get those 3 shows I will have to spend more money to do so.My wife also watches a couple of shows on We.Same story there in order to watch those shows we would have to pay for them elsewhere.Seems only fair to me that Dish should lower our bill or offer something in return. We have no or very little interest in Hdnet/movies.Already had HDnet and Style so again that is not a fair trade.

As to the increases they come annually whether any new channels have been added or removed. Now some will say wait there hasn't been any increase in almost 2 years.Ahh but remember we were hit with a $5 increase all at once.Which if you break it down equals $2.50 per year.Which also happens to be right in line with the usual annual increase.$2 $3.Again that increase comes whether anything has been added or not. They say its because of inflation, last I heard inflation has been stagnant or on the decrease. Now I understand that Dish has to negotiate contracts all the time and some of that can't be helped. All I'm saying is what they are offering for what we are losing definitely isn't a fair trade.Charlie knows that but,he doesn't seem to care for some reason. That goes back to a post in another thread few days ago.Dish could make leaps and bounds in customer service/happiness if they would only try.

:facepalm:facepalm:facepalm

I've waited a longtime to get to use that!:D

Here is what will happen. AMC will go off dish tonight and return the day before "Breaking Bad" series premier airs. How do I know this you ask? I purchased the season pass on iTunes last night for season 5!!! :D;):D

Hell they should have kept Reelz in HD. It makes no sense why they only carry Reelz in HD whenever they choose to keep it uplinked. I was hoping to check out XIII but I have no interest in watching it now since it's not in HD.

I watched it and enjoyed it even though it was in letterbox. Why in the world add a channel not in HD? What is the value - I watched and will continue to watch but everytime I do I curse the powers that be that it isn't in HD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If all you took from my post is that I was complaining about people complaining than you seriously missed the crux of what I was saying. So to help you understand a little deeper, I suggest you Google NEWTON MINOW…

No need,i am familiar with the man. Does not change your opening statement. If your point was about the channel or any channel for that matter in the grand scheme of things not being worth getting so upset about, on one hand I can see that. Leave out your opening statement and your point does not get lost. IMO Cheers.

Agreed. If TV was really that unimportant and trivial to him he wouldn't waste his time on a satellite tv forum, let alone this thread.

How is taking away 3 channels and replacing them with 2 that everyone besides the welcome pack people who had AMC already got and HDNet movies giving us better channels? You are saying HDNet Movies is better than AMC, IFC, and We combined? Well I have to say that I strongly disagree with that. Also, everyone keeps forgetting that Sundance was part of this deal too.

No matter how say it or how many times you say it you're just never going to convince me that Dish is doing us a favor here. Dish is not some moral company that is looking out for our interests. People always say its the channel that's being greedy but I think dish is just as greedy.

Your reply is not really responsive to my post. Obviously those that get all three now, are not getting anything new. I was very specifically talking about the posts where people want a discount on their monthly bill. I doubt you called Dish asking to pay more the day a a new channel was added, or HD was added. So why would you think Dish would lower your bill the other way? No question some people are getting something additional, some are not. That's different than saying your bill should go down now. I posted already I am dissapointed Dish did not actually add programming for everyone they should have.

We need a contest to guess the exact time the Dish uplink change will happen, may as well have some fun with the coming doom of AMC.
