DISH Drops AMC Networks (AMC Back on DISH channel 131)

I really hate these programming Disputes. Everytime DISH makes some kick ass equipment and get possitve PR then they do this and it kills all the positive buzz they had going for themselves.

I know. I really like the setup I have now, but I really like some of the AMC shows. Short of switching to Direct, does anyone know of other options I may have for watching AMC? Local cable carriers don't carry AMC, and I don't qualify for U-verse or other similar options.

Is it really that painful to wait a bit to get your favorite AMC shows from other sources, or at worst wait a year to buy the season set DVDs/Blurays with bonus extras?

I dont think they will listen in this case. I think their mind has been made up on this matter.

They know how many people actually watch this channel at anytime. So I am guessing they have it figured out how many customers they may lose and find it an acceptable trade off.

I think that you are right on the mark about Dish knowing how many subs they may lose. Unfortunately Those kind of number crunchers do not seem to have the mental dexterity the fathom the bad PR they are instigating. This move may just be one more srtaw that will eventually break the camels back. Individual straws like this may be acceptable but the next one may be catastrophic.

All of the AMC networks are still available in the 9000 range (check uplink reports)

For now, Dish has simply bumped We, IFC, and AMC from their channels slots in the 120s/130s

I know, its @ 9409 & 9410.

Can't find IFC -- what channel now? Was in the 380's Sunday night. ---- Never mind, found it.

Don't forget to send Charlie a tweet to @dish @ @dish_answers everyone!

Found IFC on ch 9607, looks like it was moved again.

Talk about childish! If this were a purely business decision, they would just leave them at their current channel numbers, and remove them on the date the contract expires. What they are doing really smacks of childish vindictiveness, not very professional at all.

I think they were letting emotions cloud their judgement. I'll bet they weren't prepared for the kind of reaction they are getting, now that AMC has made the matter public for their viewers.

I expected this to happen. Nice high quality "replacements". HD Net and Style. HD Net is going to be in AT120 soon. Style was already available. And of course us BB @ Home subs can watch Indieplex without even having to pay. Granted I didn't order it as HD Platinum years ago for that particular channel and I'm still not paying now for dying access to that particular channel. But shouldn't Dish just admit, "yea, we are going to need to drop AMC networks and shuffle around some of the other channels to look like we did some replacements, MKay. Thanks!" As they walk away without wait for our rebuttal.

I thought HDNet was already available to AT120; I know Dish Latino Dos has it, and I would be upset if they take it out of the package whenever it becomes AXS. We like it for the concerts; so, hopefully that format will continue with Seacrest (spelling?). Anyway, that more in depth is another thread. In my opinion, if they were going to add something in the pace that subs may not have, then they could have tried HDNet Movies. Of corse, BB@Home subs would still get nothing. My guess is that they are hoping SD subs see HDNet as a new channel sine they do not have HD. Not sure why HD feed is not at the channel #.

I don't get the replacement if Style for We because AT200 subs can watch Style a few channels up. However, Dish Latino subs get something new. Honestly, we longer watch Style. The only thing I can remember us watching was Clean House before Nash left (lol). They do play movies but edited...I know We was not in HD, but why can Style not be provided in HD as well as a replacement for those who will watch it? HD Free for Life, anyone? Honestly, I thought Dish was going to have to add something new like Lifetime Real Women. Maybe they could have tried Showtime Women or wMax; those could have been sent to the premiums later if the dispute is settled.

IndiePlex is a good replacement I guess for IFC unless you sub to BB@Home. However, I know IFC was not in HD, but where is the HD feed for HD For Life subs?! Also, Dish will probably hope SD subs see this as something new since Dish does not offer the SD feed. I believe you can even see HD on the logo bug on the SD channel Dish provided (meaning Dish probably just downcoverted it to 480i like HDNet).

Do Welcome Pack subs get these? I think they should for AMC and We; I know they did not get IFC.

We pay for TV service so we don't have to wait a year to pay $35 to $40 to purchase a DVD or Bluray set or $3 an episode from iTunes. If you watch 3 shows like The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Mad Men it starts to add up pretty quick. Why should we, as paying tv customers, have to deal with that?

If anything the channel moves are a way of then judging how many calls they get and determine what the real cost will be when they drop. Likewise all the feedback from AMC making it public only helps Dish in determining if they should adjust their strategy. It may help AMC's case, but the risk they take by making a big fuss over it is if Dish doesn't see a big rise in calls it will only strengthen Dish's position.

those are not replacement channels at all imo. like you said, they already have style in the top 200 and they are taking away from BB@home. add FEARnet to BB@home! get some new channels dish. for example BBC world news, FUNimation channel, and disney jr would make a lot of folks happy.

Where are the "high quality replacements"? A SD version of HDNet and Style? Don't think so E*, I expect some statement credits if that's all you got.

Also not seeing them...Why did the Dish spokesperson say this if they were just going to put in channels already provided? Since AMC, IFC, and We were in AT200 (which Dish says is it's most popular package), HDNet and Style are already provided to these subs. Also, why are the HD feeds of HDNet, Style, and IndiePlex not provided? HD Free for Life, anyone?

In addition, I have not seen a replacement for Sundance. I thought Flix would have been a good choice until the dispute was resolved. Maybe even Epix Drive-In...

Hopefully, Dish eventually settles the dispute with AMC Networks. I think both need each other; so, they just need to meet in the middle for the subs who get nothing out of this silly dispute. I just think the channel lineup looks silly with the same channels appearing twice, the HD feeds of those available not being provided, etc.

It seems that subs and nonsubs are requesting Disney Jr like crazy on Dish's Facebook page. I would not mind FearNet since Monsters HD is not possible. FUNimation channel would be great, too.

I'm glad that AMC, We, and IFC are in the 9000s for now.

Sundance aside, what AMC channels has Dish dropped that some feel Dish is neglectful in replacing?

Ok they may not have dropped them yet but what are you going to say in a few weeks when they do? By moving HD Net to AMC's channel number it seems pretty obvious to me that they are trying to pass that off as a replacement for AMC even though, as Mojo said, AT 200 already had HDnet.

I do think they were pretty neglectful in moving the channels to the 9000s where the average customer won't be able to find them weeks before they are scheduled to remove them. Think about how many people aren't going to have the season finales of Mad Men and The Killing recorded this weekend because their timers will no longer work.

I think BBC World News could have taken the place of CNBC World when it was dropped from AT250.

Which reminds me...
I need to fix the timer for my Grandma for The Golden Girls on We TV before 7 P.M. Central tonight. She was upset when We TV took them off at 11AM for Fraiser and then later at 5:00 PM for shows like Bridezillas. She will not be happy if Style programming comes on like Tia & Tamera. Lol If Dish was just going to add a channel in the same package, they could have at least put Hallmark which shows Fraiser and The Golden Girls. At least they did not go with Ion (not sure if they are still airing it...haven't seen it very recently) or Syfy which shows Ghost Whisperer like We TV. She will be upset if/when We is removed just for Golden Girls (although she has a few seasons on DVD) and although her timers are set for Hallmark's showing of Golden Girls).
