Dish is really the #2 satellite provider, #3 overall. But they do have around as many subscribers as U-Verse, Fios and Time-Warner combined. Because of this fact, the longer I've thought about it the calmer I've become.
Losing AMC would be significant for me. Walking Dead (the No. 1 drama series in basic cable history with men 18-34, with its Season 2 finale up 50% from the prior year) is one of my "must see" shows. Four time Emmy Award winning Mad Men's season 5 premiere was up 21% from season 4, another record for a series that has been such a cultural phenomenon it brought the 60's suit silhouette and the Fedora back into fashion. Six time Emmy winner Breaking Bad is set to begin its highly anticipated fifth and final season in July. Season 4 was up 43% in the 18-34 demographic. It has grown in viewers every single year it has been on the air.
While obviously not everyone watches these shows, they are the relatively rare breed that is not only quite popular but also critically acclaimed. I think it would be a very bad business move to drop a channel that has growing audiences in coveted demographics when every other major TV provider includes it.
I hope they work things out.

Not hard to envision it being dropped when it only has those viewers for 1 or 2 hours a week. If it held those viewers every night it would be a different story.

4 great shows, paying WAY too much for Mad Men....and bad business plan.

The fact that Breaking Bad's final season is this summer, does worry me a little. That kind of plays into Dish's hand. One less high rating show on AMC, leaving only two....

Let Dish drop AMC. Come sweeps, AMC will see the loss of tv viewers because Dish dropped them. Dish will have AMC by the balls because AMC will want to regain the viewers it lost to Dish. The negotiations will be in Dishs favor.
I noticed this after watching Super 8 on Epix:
On Channel 389, Sundance:
"This channel is no longer available.
We hope you continue to enjoy other great movie entertainment DISH offers as part of Blockbuster@Home like MGM, HDNet Movies, Movieplex, Epix 1 & Epix 2."
Where is that quality replacement for Sundance Channel?!
What is odd is that regular program titles are in the guide at 3:15 A.M. Never mind, I updated the guide data, and it says Off Air throughout the guide.
AMC, We TV, and IFC are still on.
I still think Flix would be a good alternative to Sundance Channel if Dish could make it happen. However, if I had to guess, Showtime is not exactly thrilled that Dish offers Epix.

Showtime probably isn't thrilled that Starz is available too, so I'm sure it doesn't really matter. But if Dish shows them the money, they'll work with them. Now I doubt that Dish will replace Sundance if it does get pulled, but you never know. As far as the other three AMC channels, Dish will probably move three channels from AT250 down to the AT200 package to replace them. I don't see Dish picking up any new channels since I'm sure they're counting on the drop in viewership adversely affecting AMC ad revenue. Thus bringing AMC back at what Dish is offering.
