I like DISH but I don't like them that much, when it becomes necessary to refer DISH to be able to pay for my service, TV is no longer that important.

I pay between $175-$200 per month to Dish. It along with Netflix is usually all I spend on for "entertainment" in a given month. My bill would be quite a bit cheaper if I didn't have 4 Hoppers and two Joeys, but I like to have plenty of tuners to record from, so it is worth it to me. I know that's a lot to spend, but I enjoy watching TV, and I enjoy using the Hopper and Dish equipment. I don't have any plans to go anywhere soon.
Price War between Dish and Direct ratcheting up is inevitable. With AT&T buying Direct and the coming swarm of new internet TV offerings, you will see Small communities starting their own TV services, as well as many private companies entering the fray. As Dish CEO has stated "there will be carcasses laying on side of the road". You already see rumblings of smaller packages from Dish itself. All this and more should benefit the consumer with lower prices.
this decision means that other streaming video services like Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu, as well as small businesses and community organizations, can get in the business of helping people watch their local TV stations. Smaller broadcasters and smaller cable operators will likely support the decision (just as many of them supported Aereo at the Supreme Court). That’s because the ability to use Internet streaming in place of traditional cable transmissions gives smaller cable systems more technological options and may help them compete against the giants. And local broadcasters, especially those not owned by national conglomerates, stand to gain from getting their signal out to more people who might have poor TV reception where they live, or prefer to watch on Internet-connected devices.
way to insure OVD providers have the nondiscriminatory access to vertically integrated programming as traditional MVPDs.
In fact, it will destroy existing cable and satellite systems’ comfortable position as the only ones who can transmit broadcast TV for a fee

The entire pay tv industry is under indictment.
The cost of watching tv is out of control. I believe it is about to reach a tipping point.
The upper mgmt at pay tv providers and producers insist this cord cutting thing is "nothing to see here"....But I suspect they are quaking in their Gucci's
Portland, OR...Another one of those "smart growth" communities......Drove home prices and taxes to stratospheric levels. Nothing Rivals NJ and Long Island, NY though....
I believe, as some have suggested, you'll see the rollout of smaller packages. I don't think you'll see true a la carte but the option to add smaller packs to a base package. My Dad got an interesting invite from the cable company a few days ago:
Locals (and substations) with either HBO or Starz for $30 month. It did have about six other basic channels but I only recall WGN, ID, WN and CBSSN right now.
Unlike some of their other offerings, they indicated they will allow addition of "mini-packs" or subscription packages (they showed the Extra Innings and Direct Kick logo) to that package. They had a foreign, soccer, learning and news pack. It was an interesting brochure.
I think you'll see more of this in the very near future but doubt seriously you'll see many individual channels available.

English Premier League for football. It is on NBCSN. No outside streaming like Fox offered with their buggy FoxSoccer2Go site.
The silliness is calling NFL football, seeing it is illegal to advance the ball during a possession by kicking it!
I agree with you, to an extent, but just while on the topic of NFL, as much as I love it... With Goodell in charge, is it getting more like professional wrestling? To me, it has gotten to the point that I feel like Disney is his puppet master holding the ESPN contracts over him. He is going to be the direct result of the NFL crashing down, but I digress. That is just how it has seemed to me for the last couple years with some of his pansy policies. Play some damn football.
I have been with dish for about a year. I live in areas that can only be served by satellite. I was with Directv for 12 years. I must admit I will be going back to Directv as soon as my contract is up with dish. I really like the hopper but I miss the channel selections that directv has and the picture quality is not as good with Dish.
Survival numbers, what is the lowest amount of subscribers Dish must have to survive? I am guessing 7-8 million or so. When cord cutting gets into high gear it will be interesting to see how low the subscriber base goes. Direct has nested with AT&T so they should weather the storm ok, Dish needs to marry another company soon or release some new amazing service.
I would agree, if there were more basic cable (not just premium or niche channel) "mini packs" that could be added to it.
I bet Dish will add a "cloud" DVR option at sometime for SlingTV.
I tend to believe SlingTV is as cheap as it is precisely because there is no DVR. I wonder if the contracts Dish has allows for a DVR feature for an additional (and likely not cheap) DVR or cloud DVR like Vue has.
I saw TCM is on SlingTV now. I'm one channel from jumping, assuming I can manage to get the locals working 100% at home.
Then it will be a great service. I have always said that without a dvr option , SLING tv wasn't worth it to me. But then it really will give traditional sat service like DISH a run for it's money.
