DISH Cheers Ruling on AutoHop, PrimeTime Anytime

  • Server Issues.

We are very aware that there have been system issues the past few days. In troubleshooting the system, it has been determined that the issue is at our provider and is hardware related. The provider was going to move us to a new server, however we are now told by the provider the issue is at the data center in St. Louis. They have offered to move us to a different datacenter on the East Coast or West Coast, however at this time we have declined the move to a different data center as it would affect the speed of connecting to about half our members.

We are waiting for more information from our provider, however we are trying to ride this out to stay in the same data center, so that when the server is fixed all users in the US will get the fastest connection possible.

If after some time the issue is not resolved we will be forced to move to another data center, if this happens there will be down time, as they will need to transfer everything to the new server and we will need to update the DNS and other settings for the new IP address of the new server. If we have to do this, the time it will take to move will be out of our hands.

We are going to try our best to weather through this, so we thank you in advance if you encounter any issues.

    Sorry for the issue!

This is good news, glad that the ptat and autohop features I have come to love are not going to be taken away from me. Nice to see something sided for the consumers for a change, instead of backing networks.

That is one lawsuit from FOX right? Doesn't that still leave the other 3 networks suing DISH ? Besides there will be Appeals that will stay in court for years , I'm sure ,all the way to the Supreme Court ,if they allow it.

If party "a" sues party "b" for doing "x" and loses, why would anyone else sue for the same reason ? It's called "precedent". TiVo did this with their lawsuit against Dish and once they won, all the others they sued either also lost or settled.

Very true ! Give Dish a taste of their own medicine !! :D

Plus Direct will be rolling out their version so the nets won't be able to pick on just one provider. The cablecos will likely have something similar as well.

Or they never roll it out if they think it will keep their prices down and could seen themselves become the only sat carrier offering all locals in some markets.

Reading more about the ruling it seems to have an ominous passage by the Judge. "AutoHop's functionality likely violate the RTC between DISH and Fox, and likely violate Fox's exclusive reproduction right under federal copyright laws"
In what way does it do this in that it doesn't for the DVR in general?

The ViP722 lacks the necessary mass storage and horsepower to implement either PTAT or AutoHop.

I must say, that the 722 continues to surprise me in its functionality. On Demand has improved a great amount (outside the way to select your option). They said that couldn't be improved on the 722. So, I'll believe that model reached its shelf life when Dish says it has.

And remeber this one is not even decided there just is not an injunction now. The original article and thread title were a bit misleading-------but it has been corrected this time. This could go on for some time just like the TIVO lawsuit.

They are worth a laugh with their accents and hillbilly look to them :D ;) :)
Well I'm more annoyed with the radio versions, as I haven't seen them on TV much as I don't watch a lot of TV anymore. I suppose the visual element helps them a bit, but when it's just the audio, *UGH*

Wait though.. maybe this is part of Dish's plan.... yeah.. what better way to promote commercial skipping than by having a commercial that is so damn annoying that everytime you see it you say, "DAMN, I wish there was a way that I could NEVER see this commercial again!"?

Yes I would love to see autohop on the 722's or any of the VIP line.
Just like mentioned above for the 922, does the 722k have sufficient storage space ? Will Dish take away "their" (PPV, VOD) space or the user's space ?

There's always the option of asking/warning/telling the user, "If you wish to enable AutoHop and PTAT, 'x' amount of storage space will be req'd, reducing the amount of space to store programming...", etc, etc.
