Dish AD programmed on my 722

Someone complained about the ad taking away recording space. This isn't true. In the past, dish has used a section of the disc that they reserved for this sort of stuff, and it was never available to you.

To the people complaining, you should look at Comcast's daily mail on boxing events and the short video messages they constantly download to my box.

This one was not downloaded but recorded. I noticed it in my to do list to record on Monday. I don't mind it at all.

WHO CARES?

People get worked up over what imaginary partition of their hard drive a 4 minute video is recorded on, but they won't vote. Pathetic.

All that stuff is recorded, it just usually shows up in a different list. It's ALWAYS recording stuff. (And by always, I mean often.) At any given time, there's up to a couple of hours of stuff recorded on your DVR that you didn't ask for. (And that's not including VOD.)

SO now you know for a fact people get up set about recording partitions and not voting also go hand in hand? hmmm anything else Dionne Warwick?

I think Comcast has a fairly elegant solution to this problem. Namely, when browsing their on demand menus, there is a small window playing some kind of informative advertisement. Also, before an on demand show is played, they also show a commercial spot. I, for one, would not mind the first option in particular.

Let's see, Dish does this about once, maybe twice, a year. And we've been thru this before. It will not be placed on your DVR if it would force the deletion of anything there.

I have it on my two ViP722 HD DVRs. I haven't checked my 508. I intend on watching it.

I suppose some of the complainers would have their heads explode if they owned TIVOs.

Get a grip. Four minutes. You'll see something like this again. Watch it or delete it. At least this one isn't locked so it can't be deleted for 30 days.

I thought it was a pretty good marketing idea, to be honest. I already have a Slingbox and love it, but I still made my wife watch the 4 minute clip before we started "Chuck".

I wouldn't mind them adding monthly video updates to the DVR if they wanted to.

I saw that this got recorded, thought "hmm", then deleted it and never thought about it again. Didn't consider throwing a baby fit over it though.

As long as it doesn't interfere with MY recordings it doesn't bother me at all.

I watched it and then erased it, no big deal.

Ok. You win. We are all big babies. I get it...

I just hope it doesn't get out of hand. What if they jump up in frequency? Would you get pissed if they start coming once per week? Once per day? What if they have to be watched to be deleted? These are all if's, but this random recording on my DVR feels an awful lot like a testing of the waters. If people get up in arms about, maybe Dish drops it. If not, maybe they move forward (whether that is an issue or not is up to each subscriber, I suppose).

I mean, I came from cable, where my guide would show three channels with their listings and then a horizontal add in the slot where a fourth channel and its listings would go. I am infinitely happier now, but if Dish is in dire straits, or just greedy, I could see the same sort of things happening.

No wonder there are so many commercials, and they are so loud...

... all the fanbois demand them!

I know, right?!

By the way, is that the way it is supposed to be spelled? Fanbois? I had no idea... I need to get on the internet more often. But hey, I like that spelling. It looks kinda French, which makes it a double-zinger!

I'm in no way demanding it, but it really doesn't bother me. (again, as long as it doesn't delete/override one of my recordings). Back when I had Tivo my hard drive was always full because of the suggestions it downloaded (these also didn't interfere with my scheduled recordings), and that didn't bother me either.
