Umm you folks got it backwards. DirecTV needs to keep up with Dish.

Most of the stuff in that PDF are things Dish already is working on. The VoD offerings are going, and will have stuff on the internet as well. DisComm for the power connection phone plug, and more...

uh, bfg,

directv has two supersats in the sky, two more going up, soon. so you are saying that ergen has all the capacity he needs? FINE.

BTW directv has committed to vod, internet ,premise wiring etc, your point is???

so exactly is dish AHEAD of directv??

because he bought a dead worthless dbs provider that shows endless loops of cr*p?

charlie better have contracts and sats already nearing completion or he is going to be blown by late this summer.

once again GO DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dish has always been more technically advanced than Direc, Dish from the begining have always had recievers that took upgrades via stream. The difference in sub volume in my opinion is because of the NFL Ticket(smartest move on direc`s part) to get that contract. If it wasnt for that dish would have more subs.(just my opinion) To me its like what happened to the Harley davidson and the Indian motor bikes. Back in World War1 the govt. awarded Harley the contract instead of indian to produce motorcycles for the military. That right there made Harley Davidson what it is today. If it was Indian that got the contract then everybody would be riding a indian and Harley Davidson would be rare. and yet they are both good motorcycles and technically even. wish i could say the same about the 2 DBS. By the way i am a directv cust because of the NFL ticket.

I'll agree with this, too bad E* STB's have also shown a history of being more problem prone then D* STB (until they started selling the R15's and H20's). It's a good thing that they did have software upgradable boxes from the start since they really needed to be able to push out fixes to their software.

End of 2007, huh? Weren't they talking about 150 HD channel capacity two years ago? And are their cvhannels going to be full-res or HD-Lite? Dragon is excited, but this is till TWO YEARS AWAY. And it's no noticeable advantage of Dish Network.

satellite = directv or dish now

land line phone/fios ... when dsl that is not asdsl is cheaper, then companies that are your local providers will then be more of a rounded competitor

and cable, once they see directv and fios/etc making inroads they will have run more lines rurally or be smashed in competition that =s 3

Yeah that may be three, but how many years do you think it will take before landline (telcos) and cable will actually push their products out to the rural areas? One year? two years? three years? More than five is closer to the answer and that is being optimistic....

As Dallas area subscribers with one HD TiVo, one standard Tivo, one HD receiver, one standard receiver and the Pemiere package with HD and locals, we are in the "Best Customer" group for DirecTV and we are also a Nielsen family for both broadcast and TiVo, marginally enhancing our customer value. It would seem that although DirecTV might offer us something of value in the future, the only thing of any substance they have offered us NEW in the last two years is TNT HD.

It might also interest viewers from other DMAs that the only hard to receive, VHF high definition broadcast channel in Dallas is the local ABC affiliate, which transmits digital on channel 9. Of course, the only major network HD channel which D* does not rebroadcast is ABC, leaving most anyone with a good antenna in just as good a position as if they had upgraded and gotten the AT-9 dish. We do not need DirecTV for local HD and get no benefit from this service.

I did not see anything in these presentations and this excellent discussion which would argue for us to do anything different unless or until they come out with at least the new HD-DVR and/or media center, and the improved, lower profile KA-KU dish.

Is anyone else in a similar position? What do you all think? Looks to us like standing pat and just waiting to see what happens is the best course? I always get all in an upgrade uproar when new stuff is available, but I have calmed down and just do not see anything worth buying from D* right now. Promises from them are free, and seldom fulfilled.

Am I all messed up again or should we sit tight? Thanks.

What about ESPN2-HD, that's been made available withing the past 2 years?

Tell me, do you think he switches to D* to watch UHD or HDnetmovies? I think we both no the answer and the reason why eventhough some around here refuse to admit it.
Absolutely, it's what I do, DirecTV is always the third place finisher in my house when it comes to viewing. The only thing I use D* for currently is Sunday Ticket and as a backup to my Comcast DVR for Big 4 network programming since I don't get them on Dish.

I think part of the reason is not only due to NFL ticket but they also got a head start on Dish by coming out earlier and was in the big stores first as well. They have had similar subscriber growth after a little while.

I believe that if one gets ahead, the other will catch up eventually and maybe surpass the other when they do catch up. The Wi-Max internet can be the best thing that they can get launched to attract customers in addition to the SD and HD locals and HD programming. Locals, HD, and internet are important right now.

IPTV will follow whether they choose to do this or not. They know that the internet is going to be extremely important. If they do not get this off the ground with this Wi-Max project then they will have some troubles to deal with. I may even go as far as saying that their screwed and will be just like C-Band if they do not get some sort of high speed internet to the customer.

I think the term technologically more advanced is mis-leading. 1 or 2 nice features don't make them more advanced IMHO especially when they are notoriously more buggy.

I can't get either link to work. When I click on the Longhornxp link it uses up all of my system resources. I have 512 MB of memory so I don't know why it would not be able to handle it. I have most of my system resources before I try to access it each time.

weird. Works fine for me. Perhaps you should change your PDF settings so that PDF files open up inside the PDF application and not inside explorer. I have mine set like that and I like it much better that way

If you are reading it off the original link do you have the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader installed? It is 7.0.7. i couldn't download it on one of my computers until I updated to 7.0.7.

Try a right click and save it to your PC; then open it locally.

Which they are notoriously more buggy?

until directv came out with the r-15, h-10 IRDS, directvs IRDS were vastly superior to the dish boxes. as to never needing downloads and software fixes. you plugged them in and they worked perfectly.

I have always wanted direc to go towards dish way of recievers, switches ,and Lnb`s. I think they are finally heading that way.
