Amazing. Even Ken H. at AVS forum, one of the biggest D* supporters Ive seen in the years Ive had HD has admitted he doesnt even watch HD on D* anymore.

To be fair you should put this statement in context, it was a response to a question about TNT-HD. And for the record, I do agree with him though. :)

Wasn't a merger between DIRECTV and DISH attempted, only to be shot down by the FCC,citing in their ruling that such a merger would be considered a monopoly in their opinion?

correct a monoply, BUT that was then, in the future will be diffrent because with 3 service options to choose services for, that will be the argument that gets the merger allowed when they try it in the future (and alot of unmarked bills)

the no longer using satellites as a direct way to get tv signals to peoples houses and through wireless is bein done by usdtv, although tech needs get a bit better before it is smoother... sorta how at 1st when had wired vs wireless home networks

and if they are able use the wimax or whatever it will be called in future in above listed way,. we who want directv in vehicles as we travel, can get rid of the dish on the roof, and get a smaller antenna, that would be like radio antenna on cars now

If you like sports D* is your choice.
If you like a few more HD channels E* is your choice.
If you like more premium movie channels, most cable systems will work for you.

Variety is great, choose the service that tickles your fantasy. They all have their good points and bad points. No need for all the bashing.

Tell me, do you think he switches to D* to watch UHD or HDnetmovies? I think we both no the answer and the reason why eventhough some around here refuse to admit it.

I figured this place was due for some fine upstanding editorials and as usual Sat Guys delivers. :)

But seriously that was a nice statement from the folks at D* and much looks promising but the proof is in the pudding and although ole Chucky does screw up some things he does not talk much about it but still manages to give us some new stuff.

I for one hope one or both of them git er done right.

What 3 service options are you referring to? A lot of people only have 1, or if they are lucky 2. Where is the 3rd one coming from?

Has USDTV added a single city in the past year or more? You're exactly right.

http://www.media-visions.com/itv-usdtv.html

they were supposed to have 30 cities by the end of 2004. They're still only in 4 cities.

i will explain, usdtv, took a technology that was in its infancy(beta) and marketed it, so essentially all the people are paying to beta test it, many more people on top of the ones that are investors in usdtv are very interested in learning its outcome, because then, the full use of the technology behind it, will be used as the next wave by companies(directv with their antenna on your dish being 1st)

so it is a loos company, but what is learned from it and can be used going forward is more valuable than a throw away company that usdtv is, it is the technology they are nurturing that is important

satellite = directv or dih now

land line phone/fios ... when dsl that is not asdsl is cheaper, then companies that are your local providers will then be more of a rounded competitor

and cable, once they see directv and fios/etc making inroads they will have run more lines rurally or be smashed in competition

that =s 3

IMO,between DIRECTV and DISH,they have a combined sub base of almost 30 million currently. It will take the telcos some time to even begin to think about obtaining that amount of subs to the FiOS and IPTV services. With that in mind,I don't see the FCC approving a merger between the two DBS providers for some time to come.Competion is great for the consumers, but,it takes time to get up and running,to catch up with DBS and cable, the players that have been around for a few years already.Take the area that I live in for instance, our choices for TV service consists of DBS,OTA or basic (not digital) cable services. The independent telco over here is working on getting IPTV off the ground and running, but, they have stated that it looks like it will be toward the end of this year at the earliest before they start offering that service to anyone in this area.

no dude im fine.

there does seem to be a double standard on here though.the dish heads can brag up ergens crap and bash directv all day long. the directv guys arent allowed to (heaven forbid) say anything negative about dish, and now are getting bashed about bragging up directv.

WTF???

there are 15.25 MILLION of us that think we have the better system.
wait, scratch that, there are 15.249.998 of us that do, sean cant wait for his committment to be over and vurbano will bash directv no matter what.

Dish needs to stay a step ahead of DirecTv or be left behind. DirecTv is going to do some promising things and Dish has time to come up with things to conteract and/or beat what DirecTv is going to do.

stargazer,

if all the press release info is true, and it all comes to pass by 2007, MR ERGEN is gonna get blown out of the sky. if he needs sats, there isnt time.

Umm you folks got it backwards. DirecTV needs to keep up with Dish.

Most of the stuff in that PDF are things Dish already is working on. The VoD offerings are going, and will have stuff on the internet as well. DisComm for the power connection phone plug, and more...

skyboss,

here we go again, please dont get angry with me. do you have any idea how many subs out of 15.5 million care about those four items,???? MAYBE 50.000 IF you are lucky.

Does it matter? Those willing to pay will.
