DIRECTV unlikely to keep NFL Sunday Ticket

I knew it. Expect Directv to provide NFL Sunday Ticket (not just TNF) to many hotels and bars in 2023 and beyond. I saw this coming. Again, Directv is going to be allowed to sell the Ticket and not have to pay the exclusive rights to do so. Just watch and see. I won't be surprised if Dish Network gets into it as well.

Directv I think, has always planned on doing that, it just makes sense for whatever company gets ST so they don't have to worry about that end of the service.
As long as Amazon or Apple are OK with it.

Of course, DirecTV always planned on this.

Amazon and Apple prepared their bids a while ago, and had plenty of chances to include DirecTV as part of it. I would be surprised if DirecTV didn’t make this offer during bid prep and were ignored, rebuffed, rejected, or the like. I know that if I was in DirecTV’s shoes, I would have reached to the other bidders to provide this. Every proposal I’ve prepared, I identified and got quotes from the subs i knew I’d need, at least for things this central to the bid. Same is true if bids I’ve evaluated. This isn’t something you discover half way through the project… it’s part of your initial proposal.

The whole DirecTV for commercial establishments smells of desperation on DirecTV’s part… we will reach out to the winner… a deal is “close.” It’s not like we haven’t heard that before… how many years of HD anticipation threads announced the next new channel was coming “soon.” It was a running joke.

First, the deal is only for Businesses, nothing was done for those who cannot get fast broadband, I can’t say rural anymore since my House is in a what is considered a Rural Area and I get 1Gig here.

Second, what does it mean if Apple gets ST?

Last, businesses need to start planning for streaming, it will happen, Satellite TV Service is predicted to be gone in 5 -10 years ( 10 years with a merger).

The main issue is that Amazon could of handled the Business side, it is Restaurants and the like are not ready for the streaming world and they need to be, it is rumored that the Sat Side of DirecTV is still losing 1.5-2 million subs a year.

The last 2 reported quarters, 1st/2nd 2021, they lost a million there and analysts believe sub loss is ever higher like it is for cable tv right now.

The Sat Side will go down, no more Satellites being launched, no new new equipment being designed and losing customers by the boatload, the only thing they can do is hope for a merger with Dish.

But this is not ST , this is a deal with Amazon for TNF and will be a moot point if Apple gets ST.

Of course Amazon or Apple COULD handle the business side, but as of Now, it looks like they don't want to ... why do you think that is ?

D* is already set up and it WORKS, and those to potential owners of SAT Know that ....
In a few years, maybe they will do it on thier own, when they have tested Billions of stream at one time.

Hell, Stranger Things Crashed Netflix on opening night, and thats One feed.
Think what Might happen when they try to do an Opening week at the same time.

I tried watching Amazons MLB this year, thats Just a Friday night ... it was terrible, audio and video issues every few minutes ... no it was not an internet connection, I'm running 200 mg, thye say you can stream 4k with 20.

That is Apple’s MLB, Amazon has TNF and all of last year there was not one problem.

This would be BARS and Commercial establishments only ....
So far ...

Now, seeing the NFL wanted the MOST people to be able to pay them/watch ... They SHOULD allow D* to have it for residential as well, the original idea from Goodel was to have as many people as possible be able to see it ... as in make it Non Exclusive .... then that was apparently changed, as Amazon or Apple will again make it exclusive, so its no different than if D* had kept it ... except its not on a different platform.

IF they wanted the most to see it, open it up to everyone.

There are about 1,300 BWW locations. How much revenue will making TNF available via satellite bring to Amazon? Maybe, what, $1-2 million, probably less. DirecTV is going to take a cut. Amazon is paying over $1 billion a year for TNF.

DirecTV has had over a year to get a deal done with Amazon. What motivation does Amazon have to do a deal? If getting TNF into BWW via satellite mattered to the NFL, don’t you think they would have insisted on it as part of their deal with Amazon?

My prediction is that BWW will figure out how to stream the games pretty quickly.

They have internet, they need to get better speeds, then they will have to update the equipment.

I am still so amazed that so many are resistant to this change over, the world of Television has been nothing but change.

Commercial high speed internet is alot more expensive than residential high speed internet...the ROI is not there for most small bars and restaraunts..even the bigger ones usually dont have wifi for customers..just credit card machines and such..thus amazon figured out
 
They need to install internet..thats the real issue

The other issue is a commercial Amazon account that allows public viewing of the games. It doesn’t appear that Amazon has such a beast. It also doesn’t appear that Amazon is interested in creating such a beast.

Sub-licensing the content is an option. DirecTV is clearly interested in this role. The question is whether Amazon or the NFL care. So far, they don’t seem to.

TNF may simply not be available to be viewed outside of the residential accounts.
