DIRECTV unlikely to keep NFL Sunday Ticket

Unless I missed something, there's nothing in there about commercial rights. All I see is this:

To get that ST for free, you have to agree to a 2 year contract that would cost over $2300 for that timeframe.

With it being on YouTube PrimeTime, no having to subscribe and force to pay for Live TV.

But nothing like the premium sports experience on directv...cough RSN cough
 
Picked this up from the other Sat site, from the WSJ-

The NFL will also seek to license the commercial rights for bars and restaurants for an additional $200 million.

This means a couple of things, either Dish or DirecTV could do this, I would assume DirecTV would have the edge, but will they want to pay the $200 Million since they are in cost saving mode.

Second, looks like that hope that DirecTV would still offer ST to those with icky internet access is out the window, if Google had the business license, then there could of been a side deal with DirecTV for Commercial and those without good broadband.

Since Residential and Commercial rights are being split, makes that more doubtful.

DirecTV has the RSN, yet still has lost over 12 Million subscribers
Hulu Live and YTTV do not, yet are growing in subscribers

And I do not care, I live in Florida ( 2 years now) yet still want to watch teams from Detroit ( lived there for 53 years), so I get the streaming MLB package for the Tigers and ESPN+ for the Red Wings.

For College, I watch Michigan Football, since the Big Ten is leaving ESPN and moving to Fox, NBC, Peacock and Paramount+ I will get that OTA and streaming.

And do you not have Dish Network which does not have the RSNs?

93K mid-season rate for the top level 10,001+ (casino)
and mid-season starts at like $300

If they pony up the $200 Million, I agree, the NFL has proven over and over they only care about the big check they get for the rights.

For example, if they wanted the most fans to have access, they would of given the rights to Amazon, who has over 70 Million Prime Members, not to Google who’s YTTV has 5 million ( and growing) and it’s Prime Time Channels, which I never even heard of till yesterday.

But it is obvious that Google offered the most $$$.

I'm not trying to pick a fight here, and you certainly have a better idea of what's going on but I don't know how you're reading Sunday Ticket into that when it clearly (to me) applies to the Amazon Prime telecasts only. "The two" to me, means Amazon and Directv. They'd need a new deal between Google and Directv to get Sunday Ticket tied up.

Sunday Ticket will be offered ala carte! Anyone with a decent internet connection will be able to buy it. Subscription numbers for any service are meaningless here.

I agree, but people need to of heard of the service to know to subscribe to it.

Google really needs to advertise this, YT PrimeTime is not even a blip yet in the streaming world.

I sub to a lot of streaming services, not one do I use a third party for.

Primetime Channels were only launched last month. I'm sure you'll be hearing and seeing plenty more about it very soon.

I sub to a lot of services, too. And I like handling them individually, but for some people, subbing to Amazon and paying for the rest through them allows for a single bill. They don't cost more buying them that way. Apple TV+ also allows you to sub to other services through them.

No doubt that anyone keeping DTV for ST only will leave, but I would imagine those are low-paying subs with minimum packages. But keep in mind that DTV also won't be paying the NFL $1.5 billion dollars. That's a big chunk of change and if I had to guess, they will come out ahead on this.

Not really..same people who like NFL..like NBA,NHL and MLB..directv has the RSNs..others don't....it will be fun to watch how many will pay full price for sunday ticket

Dont you enjoy watching pre and post game on your RSNs also?

Since you keep posting that the only ones who want ST is because they only care about the out of market teams, why then would they care about a in market RSN?

People do move or have a favorite team from other areas, not just the NFL.

I am proof of that.

Yeah, if he predicts something you're pretty safe betting the complete opposite. His best one was when he said an NFL franchise was going to fail. :oldlaugh

NFL is the most watched sport in the US, every NFL fan is not tuning into every other sport in existence like he suggests (I know, because that includes me).

Mostly pivots and backtracks from the detractors today. Up next standalone ESPN once Disney spins it off.
