Maybe Im a little harsh on E*, but there is a few things that bug me

1) Decrease in PQ from D*. Lets face it, they did have 6 channels per tp, then jumped to 7 so they could keep everyone happy. Then its been shown D* is passing 1920, not 1440 on 1080i. All these facts, yet people still claim they look the same. Now, keep in mind people say that out in the open, but I got a diff story from a few 1.5 mo's ago via pm, where every said the same thing Im saying, E* is a little soft compared to D*. May not be a biggie to you, but it is to me. Im not gonna openly let them off the hook for crapping on PQ, regardless of what the robots on this site say (noticed a trend of blind faith in Dish??) No one let D* off the hook when they crapped on PQ.

Just read the turbo hd thread.

2) Yes, the 722 is a great DVR, but the HR20 is damn good too, and the only missed recordings ive had in the past 6 mo's (three total) were all on the 722. Imagine that

3) Lets not forget how mad people were when E* was sitting there not adding Scifi and USA, once they did everyone was happy (lemmings again). Then they yanked Voom, people mad again. Now they've added some premium hd's and are touting a bogus 150 number. Top that with TurboHD and the robots are happy again. Notice a trend??

Im not letting Dish off the hook, the rest of you can. I gladly paid Dish $230 last week, dont miss it at all. Im enjoying more HD that I want, a better PQ, and am about to be enjoying some more nationals, alongside some more full time rsn's.

I gotta give props to E* for the big 1080p announcement and the addition of their ONE movie :haha

I also hope, for you guys, that the rag tag sats for EA stay in orbit.

:end rant

So when we all attend these Satellite show and banquets, Why don't we start coming down on Charlie instead of kissing his A#$. Thats what I'm tired of . Isn't this a News site as well? How does this help? E* reads stuff like what you posted and they don't care or what ? I just don't get it!

I agree with you 100%. We should start supporting the facts and stop kissing E*'s you know what. Part of the problem is, this site is known as the home of E* and the other one is known as the home of D*. Id love to see more D* insider stuff and less pro E* propaganda here. I spend my money here, not at the other site, and there is a reason.

That being said, Im gonna drop it. We are getting this thread off topic with warzone material. Dont want it moved.

Com'On its not VOOM!

LOL!

I also agree with you 100%. this is the only site i would invest my money in but for sure there is more E members on this site than D. I would like to see the scale even out on this. I dislike going over there very much. Like Hemi posted people need to stop kissing Charlie's fanny and just be honest with him. His way of doing business doesn't satisfy the consumer. It might fatten his wallet up to a point but without us where would he be. treat the consumer well and you shall reap the rewards.

On Thursday, D* will have 23 full time HD RSN's.

A question on the RSN's 24/7. How much HD content are on these channels? I get Fox North, Fox Midwest and Comcast Chicago in my sports pack. On Dish they are the same channel but the HD version only plays HD events. Anyway I still get all the games that are in HD so what does the 24/7 stations give me that I don't already get? Seems everything else looks to be in SD.

No interest in the Dodgers or Yankees personally! All I care about are the Twins and Cubs so my 5.95 sports pack blows the Direct package right out of the water.
And you should count yourself fortunate NOT to be a Yankees fan :D But reverse the situation a little. What if you didn't live in a market servicing your favorite team. What it you lived in Denver? Would you care enough about your Twins or Cubbies to want to buy the package that allows for the most possible games? Or would you simply go back to opening the paper every morning and reading the second page of the sports section...or going online for stats...or hoping that something exciting enough happened that it will be shown on SportsCenter for 5 seconds?

You live in your favored market, as do I. I don't "need" the MLB-EI, but if I didn't live where I do, I would probably do that. And the point is that with D*, you have that option.

My biggest hope is that with the 24/7 RSN's in HD we might be able to get local HD feeds for out of town games instead of SD only.

Direct in a PR a few months ago has made this announcement, they are just waiting for HBO to properly format their transmission.
If you look, you'll find that HBO has already made their transition. They've been offering all HBO and Cinemax channels in MPEG4 since late June or early July.

Again, both have confirmed they they WILL be carrying more in HD. Give it time, the satellite just went live.

You point is well taken and being a Viking fan in Bears country is a perfect example. That is why I am considering D* right now. The deal is good but everything else tells me to stay with E*.

What is "everything else", if you don't mind me asking? From your location, would you not qualify for the same RSN feed(s)? Or is it the current lack of WGN-HD for the Cub's?

My zip 52807 gives me Comcast Chicago (Cubs, White Sox)
With the sports pack I also get Fox Midwest (Cardinals) and Fox North (Twins, Brewers)
Being a Twins fan make this a good deal

Other things:
sports pack for 5.95 vs 12.00+
Receiver slow ... like the 722 (Tested it and D*dealer said it is slower than the 722)
OTA tuner for my Square Shooter (HD locals)
Direct has 2 dishes ... Dish one
DVR advantage ... I get HBO with all the HD for 10.00
1 cent for the year Cinemax
Travel Channel and WGN (Cubs) in HD

My problem ... do I give up these things up for the NFL package to watch the Vikings?

My problem is being a Viking fan

1/2 of Direct's price for 1/10 of the programming :D

It is not as slow as you may think. But your 722 is probably better in some ways
OTA tuner for my Square Shooter (HD locals)
HR20 and H20 have OTA tuners (2 of them) and the H21 has an external duel OTA tuner called the AM21. You will still be able to get OTA and OTA channels in your guide
Direct has 2 dishes ... Dish one
Are you sure about that? Everywhere I have looked it is the opposite situation. The 5 lnb dish should get you everything
DVR advantage ... I get HBO with all the HD for 10.00
Dish is definitely better than Direct is this area.
1 cent for the year Cinemax
When it comes to prices without all of the extra add-ons Dish is definitely a better deal
Travel Channel and WGN (Cubs) in HD
I can almost guarantee you that this will eventually not be the case, sooner rather than later
My problem ... do I give up these things up for the NFL package to watch the Vikings?
I can understand, but some of what you will be giving up, such as the OTA tuner, is not actually the case.
My problem is being a Viking fan
Isn't that the problem with all Viiking fans? :D

Still has 2 dishes but the locals are coming in October and hopefully a slimline dish. At least it is announced but I learned you can't always believe what you read with DBS.

Dodger have you seen the AM21 tuner? Hopefully it is not slow and hopefully the guide information appears on the guide.

Also what does the 24/7RSN'sreally give me that I don't have with Dish. Even though they are part time I still get the HD content.

Thanks for your help and this is the year for the VIKINGS!!!!

The AM21 does give you guide info in your guide, that is true. As far as speed goes, I don't know how fast or slow it is. I have an HR20 so my OTA tuner is built in. The OTA channels and OTA sub channels appear next to the locals in the guide provided by Direct.

* If your market is due for HDLIL in October, then you would only need the 5LNB Slimline for all channels.
* AM21 is "seamless" as far as OTA integration. Your OTA locals would appear in the EPG in the same area as the HDLIL's would appear. There will likely be some micro-slowness since it is a separate unit connected via USB.
* 25/7 HD RSN's wouldn't necessarily get you more games, but it would allow you to see all content (SD or HD) in better PQ than SD only feed. As we move forward, more and more content is being shot/produced/delivered in HD. Don't see that trend revering, so expect more HD on those channels in the future.
