It says "130 on tap for mid August".

The " Beginning August 14, DIRECTV will launch more than 30
additional HD channels, bringing the total HD channel lineup to 130" could be misleading, but the first one is pretty direct.

I got a response to my clarification question, wanting to be sure they intend to have 130 HD by Aug 14:

Safe to say we should have 130 on Aug 14.

Essentially, after the RSN error, I tried to read too much into the press release :)

That should be solid indication that there will be a handful of national channels beyond what was indicated in the press release.

95 now, add 12 RSNs, 2 nationals, and a few PPVs (we'll say 6) = 115

Still upwards of 15 or so channels that are not named yet.

No bonus but I like the mpeg4 channels.

Are they working? this morning i checked them at 6:08am but the channels were down. the ones int the 70 range were working and are probably the ones that are gonna stay for now in mpeg2

Yeah, they were down for a few, then came on.

or movies on demand. even if E leaked something about 1080p VOD do you think they will do this before D? no. E lately is always late to the party. they will not do this before D. by D announcing this proves that they're ahead of E on this 1080p issue. like Dk said "I don't think so"

looks like i was dead wrong about this since E announced today that their vip dvr's will have 1080p enabled this month.

Probably tough to tell without live sports on, Hemi.

However, when I switched to D* I could definitely tell the image was washed out on ESPNHD and ESPN2HD. Hopefully this switch will be apparent tonight.

As was I. The original press release mad no mention of this happening on 8/1, but rather later in the year. I wonder if they moved it up because of Direct?

All I can say is competition is a wonderful thing. If forces both providers to do better. Image where D or E would be now if only one of them existed? We would probably still be looking at only a handful of HD channes.

.

Dodger - that is exactly what happened. The words I heard was Dish was 'pissed' with the D* release this week and wanted to speed up / get out another release.

That said, to claim they have 114 now and 150 soon, their counting methods are getting way out of hand. I wonder if their olympics coverage will count as a few HD channels, perhaps NHL CI, it is starting again soon, NBA maybe. Want to take that approach, 150 is cake.

DirecTV could add 29 HD channels to their count with MLB EI alone.

I'm not saying either company count their sport pckages in the channel count, but how E* can claim 114 now is beyond my understanding.

We will be able tell more about the pq when the next mlb is on ESPN hd. I am looking for not as much noise on MPEG4. I do think the feed has more to do with it though.
