DIRECTV Down?

We're back up here in So Cal. Our technicians say that satellite 110 SD remained on and that HD was down. Could be they are shutting down SD this month and someone pushed the wrong button!

Why would that just effect the news channels?

Is it remotely possible for the network to have been hacked and if so what does that say for D security. Or is this simply just a technical glitch and nothing more.

CNN was on sat 99CA/D14 xponder 18 TPID 22, which is now 249 Comedy Central.
CNN is now golfhd and so on, I looked up a few before and after.

Satellite damage is interesting. But I'd think a micrometeoroid would cause more damage, maybe total loss. Perhaps something just burned out?

But I suspect the problem is terrestrial.

If Dish starts having problems, I guess hacking comes to the forefront.

Totally a technical glitch and nothing more. The network that DirecTV's systems ride on is completely separated from the world. The only way it could happen is if someone was on the inside. Extremely unlikely and very doubtful. I can say with a 100 percent certainty it wasn't a network hack.

I find disturbing this may be hacked on main top rated news channel possibly from Russia or some other 3rd world crapper country.

My first guess would be that an entire satellite, or several transponders, have died.

Second guess is that this is what to expect when AT&T is running things.

Nothing wrong with the satellite or anything like that. I cant go into any more details on what happened obviously, but the issue was ground based and sometimes updates can go wrong. ATT had nothing to do with what went on. It could have happened even last year pre ATT. This is just one of those things that happen on occasion and took some time to resolve. These things happen.

Yea local stations go down like that all the time. 90 percent of the time its an issue with the local affiliate.

Our phone system lit up like a Christmas tree on Friday. Funny customers can find our number when they want to call and bitch, but not to order new service.

It got so bad, I had to put a recording on the phone system explaining the issue and that Directv was aware of it. I also specifically told customers not to bother the sales people as there was nothing we could do to fix the issue.

I still had idiots calling the sales line to complain.

That's like asking people to use search, or at least look at a forum before they post. There must have been 50+ threads on the ATT DirecTV forum on the same subject, many of them accusing DirecTV of political bias because Fox news was off the air......

Yes. The gym has monitors on eliptical machines and treadmills, which are served by DTV.
