directv channels 13v 18v

I have a single LNB (a fold-up, manual crank dish on top of my RV).

I'm not in the market to replace that dish, they are very expensive.

I currently use a standard def receiver, it works fine.

I have a standard def dual-tuner DVR that I would like to use. I understand that it may be possible to use a splitter, with one power-passing side, to split the single LNB to feed two tuners.

I also understand that the power-passing side would select 13V or 18V and that the second tuner would be limited to the channels on the voltage that the primary tuner has selected.

So, if this is correct, is there somewhere that I can find a list of the channels that are broadcast on 13V and 18V?

Also, what specific product should I use for the one-side power-passing splitter?

It is easier than that,

The 13v & 18v and the tone or no tone are technical details of how the system works but users need not worry about that feature.

What you want to do is make sure you have a dual LNB by removing the screw at the end of the dish arm and pulling the LNB out of the arm. The very oldest of these components had a single port....almost all are dual LNBs.

From the two ports on he LNB run two lines into the RV. Connect a 3x4 multiswitch. This will give you four ports to run to four tuners. The recorder has two tuners and the stand alone boxes have one.

From what you said you need three lines.........use the extra one when you want to move the receiver & TV outside the RV.

Solidsignal,com is one of many sources for this stuff. Cable, dual LNB & 3x4 multiswitch will be way under one hundred bucks. Find an installer and he can probably do the project from used equipment that will work fine for years. Try a local Craigslist ad.

I feel a little foolish, but I did some googling and actually found a replacement LNB for my retractable dish: tweetys . com / duallnbwhite . aspx

It's a winegard RM-DM46 dish.

But, are you saying that mine might already have dual LNB? I'll have to climb up there and take a look. I don't recall seeing any way to take it apart when I installed it three years ago, but that was three years ago, so it may be there.

Otherwise, I'll just spend $50 on a dual LNB.

You are on the right track.
Fifty for a dual LNB is a little on the high side Look at Skywalker )was $15.00) and or Centronics.(was $20.00).....both will ship to you and take orders over the phone with a credit card..my catalogs are a year or two old.
Radio Shack may even have what you need at that price.

Good luck with the disassembly......old rusty stuff can be a challenge.
