Was in another room when a Direct commercial came on. I thought it said this:

"Dish Network tells you they're the HD Leader, They Lie"

Did I hear correctly?

I doubt it. Then Dish would have to prove that they are the leader since they would have the burden of proof as the ones who brought the lawsuit. Remember the old saying: Careful what you wish for. You might get it

At least whenever I call in to activate a receiver with E*, the message I hear is, "Dish is the leader in HD DVR service".

Not much of a difference, but I hope most can appreciate the distinction.

It's all marketing. Leader, better, quality. They are all adjectives that are subjective.

Leader in HD can mean many things to many people:

Leader in quantity of channels
Leader in quality of channels
Leader in quantity of pure HD content
Leader in quantity of sports RSNs in HD
Leader in HD technology
Leader in their own mind.
Leader in another 18 months when their 3 satellites go up and they count Charlie Chat HD as a national HD channel.

Companies that compete in the same industry routinely run commercials claiming they are better than the competition.

I like the DTV commercial where the woman tells you that cable is way behind Direct TV in HD programming. (and the clock keeps ticking in the bottom right-hand corner)

She's telling you all this and the commercial is not even in HD.
