HBO GO is a gem on Roku. Possibly my all time favorite series, "Deadwood" is there, and I recently completed watching the whole series again. Should have gone at least another season.....If you received a Roku from Dish you really did get a nice gift.

It is nice. I also like HBO Go on the Roku. It is so much better watching it on a big screen than on the computer. I saw them at the store for $79.99. There was also a cheaper model and a more expensive model.

It sure is, too bad Carnivale is not in there. Watching Band of Brothers anytime I want is a bonus. Even though I now use my roku more than my dish, in the fall it will be the other way around, they have assured my business for a long time because of how they handled the amc issue.

My sony receiver does not have hdmi either but my tv has toslink out. I have that going to my sony box so anything hdmi going to my tv gets 5.1 with sony receiver. Could not get it to work with netflix on roku though but that could have been seperate issue. Use to work with dish box but due to hdcp crap have to use component so I am reduced to pl2 witch blows.

Yep, stereo only from external devices. Only direct OTA will be 5.1

I have toslink from tv to sony receiver and if i hook dish box to tv with hdmi, I get 5.1 same with my dvd player. Still have not had time to see about roku, but I see no reason why would not. Try it and see

I cant get it to work.
I choose the movie then it starts with an ad and then it returns to the screen where I need to choose Play, and I click play and again is the ad and again the screen to click Play, over and over

Yes, Crackle works for us. However, we cannot get Epix to work right.

Nothing will play when I press play. HBO Go, on the other hand, did not give me any problems. The family member I am helping has BB@Home free for a year and HBO free for 3 months. Does anyone know why Max Go is not available?

I use my roku through an Onkyo AVR with HDMI switching for 5.1 sound. Netflix is Dolby Digital Plus 5.1. This only works over HDMI and only if your receiver supports DD Plus. For some reason the Roku can't convert it to standard DD for receivers that don't support plus like other streamers.

To get 5.1 on Netflix you have to turn surround sound on in the Roku settings. Then you have to select a Netflix title that supports 5.1. There will be a menu once you select the title for audio and subtitles. It will be set to stereo by default. Once you change it to 5.1 in one show or movie it will stay that way for other titles. The system should have been smart enough to automatically select 5.1 for Netflix when you select 5.1 in the main Roku settings but it's not.

That could be the reason out did not work with netflix. My receiver it's not plus. Ok may have to voice complaint with them about that. Netflix does a good job of doing little things to irritate it's customers. Thanks for info though.

I don't have a stand alone HDMI switch. I meant my Onkyo audio receiver has HDMI switching built in. I plug my hopper, roku, PS3, and Xbox 360 into the back of my Onkyo through HDMI. The Onkyo pulls the 5.1 (or 7.1) signal from the HDMI cable and passes the video through to the TV. This allows me to get the best sound quality from all of my devices and only have one HDMI cable plugged into the TV.

If you don't have the bucks, I understand, but IF YOU DO, Get one. Just an entry level HDMI receiver will make you a happy man. Check out Pioneers...on Amazon. Inexpensive and good.
