Hi guys-

I'm new here, and have searched around a bit before joining to get more specific help. I'm a bit lost in the world of satellite and hope you all can help :)

We're currently with Cox, and paying about $103 a month for cable and internet. We actually haven't had any problems and am pretty happy overall with the service. We love On Demand and the FreeZone to watch shows whenever after they've premiered. When we first signed up we didn't add DVR service thinking we wouldn't really need it. We've decided now that we do, but the once $5 a month fee is now about $20 a month which would bring us to $125ish. I'm thinking we can get a much better deal through a satellite provider. Maybe I'm completely wrong though and we should just stick to Cox.

I'm in the process of calling around to get price estimates, but I was a little irritated that D* has to do a credit check before they'll give you an exact price. I don't need each place I call running a credit check and accruing unnecessary points. We're looking to bundle with Qwest for internet (We're just looking at maybe 7mbps, the second tier), but I don't know how much the two together are going to run.

So my question is the cliche "which one should I go with, DirecTv or Dish?" We're leaning towards DirecTV, but only because of one measly channel for one show- Bravo. My husband needs his Top Chef!! That's really the only channel we watch that we get on the basic D* Choice package, that we couldn't get on the E* 120 or even 120+ package.

We don't care too much about the sports packages; the basic channels that come with the Choice package are fine. We only have one TV, and would like an HD DVR. We'll probably end up getting a second TV for our bedroom down the road though, so I want to consider how easy/hard it will be to add that one to our plan and get it all hooked up. I've read here that E* has better DVRs overall, but why exactly is that? Do they hold more?

So if anyone has any input that would be great- I apologize because I'm sure I'm asking questions that have already been answered time and time again. I just couldn't seem to find exactly what I was looking for. And if anyone currently has their TV bundled with internet through Qwest, I'd love to know about how much they're paying (no landline/phone, just internet.)

THANKS!!
