Hello Friends,

I have purchased a Coolsat 8100 HD receiver. I have a Dish Network HD at home and I plan to use the dish which is installed by Dish Network. I am newbie to FTA.

I have no idea how to connect it. Is there a post which can direct me through basics?

I conneted the Coolsat directly to the wire without using NEOSAT 4 in 1 DISEqC 2.0 switch. I was able to scan all the channels but they are not showing up. It says No Audio and Video for those channels.

Please help.

You are scanning Dish channels on the 8100? 8100 is for FTA, not legal to use them to descramble encrypted channels (such as dish or bell expressvu)

To get free-to-air signals, you will need a bigger dish 33-39inch is recommended aka 1m dish and a linear KU lnbf on it (dish sats are circular polarization) , and then aim the dish to the satellite you desire. Many of us watch Galaxy10 at 123degrees , lots of free channels.
If you had free dishnetwork in mind, you came to the wrong forum.

Free to air is not about receiving free pay TV. Free to air is the reception of a variety of channels that are uplinked on various satellites across the sky for various purposes. Many of the channels we get are up there for cable TV companies (local TV from other cities), some are educational (PBS, for example), and some are feeds that come and go. Plenty of sports and news feeds up there. Bottom line for all of them, though, is that they are in the clear (not encrypted). FTA is NOT a replacement for pay television.
