I just got Dish a couple months ago, happy to switch from Comcast. I currently have a total of 4 TVs connected to Dish, and would like to add another. I have ViP722 and a ViP222k. I understand that I will have to purchase the next receiver, which is probably going to be a basic, solo, non-dvr box. I was wondering, how do I connect this to the satellite? I'm not too sure how the guy that installed it set it up. I do know that there is just one RG6 cable going to each of the 2 recievers. I don't know what the difference is with the satellites. There is only one satellite, and it says "Dish Turbo HD" on it. Any help would be appreciated.

What city? The TurboHD part suggests a Dish 1000.4, but those are only good in Chicago and Quincy; neither of which are in "Central Illinois" (Decatur?).

With either of the current Dish 1000 configurations you can run another cable from the LNB assembly down to the new receiver and it will work fine. Adding a fourth will require a sizable investment so you may want to consider another Duo receiver.

:welcome to SatelliteGuys!

You have one dish, and it points to 3 satellites. We need to figure out if it is a Dish 1000.2 or a 1000.4. On one of the receivers, go to Menu-6-1-3. Box G identifies the satellites you are receiving, and Box H has the switch and LNB types. (This can also be found at Menu-6-1-1-CheckSwitch.)

Both dishes have an internal switch, 1k.2 or 1k.4, with outputs for 3 receivers. You will need to run another line from the dish to the new receiver. The 1000.2 is pointed at 110-119-129 and can be used with any receiver. The 1000.4 is pointed at 61.5-72.7-77 so will need an MPEG-4 receiver.

I think if you are a TurboHD subscriber, meaning you get only HD, you will have to get an MPEG-4 receiver.

The current basic MPEG-2/SD receiver is the 311. For MPEG-4 you will need the 211k or older 211, both of which can be converted to a no monthly fee DVR.

Now that we've gone through all that, if the 5th TV won't be on at the same time as one of the others, you can split the output of one of the receivers and either share the TV2 remote or buy another.

The newer 1000.2 dishes say turbo hd on them as well. Are the lnb eyes close together or is one of them off set from the others. if they are evenly spaced you have a 1000.2 if one is offset from the other two then you have a 1000.4

Alright, thanks for all the help. Looks like I have a 1000.2. The system info page says satellites 119, 110, and 129. Box H says: DPP 1K.2, 1K.2(1), 1K.2(2), 1K.2(3).

I don't have just the HD channels, but I was thinking of switching to that soon because they pretty much have all the channels I watch in HD now. Would that cause a problem if I got a Basic non-hd, non-dvr receiver? Or would that involve changing everything out. If thats the case, I'll just keep the package I've got.

And as far as this new receiver for the fifth TV, I just need to get a MPEG-2 receiver such as the 311, connect an RG6 from the third connection on the LNB and run that straight to the receiver, right?

And...finally, you say the 211k can be converted to DVR? That is one of the receivers I have currently, and if it can be done for low cost, I wouldn't mind doing that... What's involved?

Oh, and I completely forgot. The last people that lived in my house left behind all of their old satellite equipment. I found 2 Dish 301 receivers, an old Dish 500 and a power supply with a coaxial connection on it. Can I use the 301? It has an access card in the front of it that has all the logos of the premium movie channels. It says MPEG-2 right on the front of it.

a 301 is a type of STB you can use(also 311 or 381).. however it may still be assigned to their acct. and you might not be able to activate under your acct. Moreover, it has an old smart card.. the new ones say "G3" on the bottom.

ALSO do not forget that there are 4 posts on a 1000.2 LNBF the last on on the right is an input. if you hook a line into it you will spend a while wondering why it isn't working.
