Coach wins game 100-0, gets fired

Here's my favorite line from the article:

I wonder what Christ would consider fair when it comes to womens high school basketball.

Anyways, I don't think the guy should have been fired for this. Sure this wasn't the most classy act in sports history, but now all they're doing is throwing gas on the fire. In this day and age, you can't be firing people just because they don't agree with you. Is there any information as to how the guy's winning record was?

Also, what is this small school doing in a competitive league like this? At the VERY least, put them in a JV League, although really I think sports should just be inter mural there.

If I were the AD at the school, I would have fired him. There no way I could, in good conscience, continue to work with him.

These kids need the life lesson of losing big. Life is not fair. You will be stepped on and lose big at times.

And ultimately the "winning" coach is the one to get the real "life lesson of being stepped on and losing" as he is now fired from his job for displaying a complete lack of class and unsportsmanlike style of management. Quite ironic, eh?

I know this opinion seems unpopular with some, but I always grew up with the mindset of not letting up.

I was a witness to the type of nightmare scenario I once mentioned. I went to a football game at a Buffalo school () where the winning team had a huge lead, they took out the starters, and ended up losing the game.
It's obvious you just don't get it.

I'm a HS football official and I've seen many stirring, emotional comebacks between teams that to start with were pretty evenly matched. I've also worked blowout games that were such a physical mismatch that there was no way that dominant team was going to lose that game. This is the scenario we have here.

Whats the shot clock in HS BB? 35 seconds? They could have played "keep away, ball control" offense the entire 2nd half and cruised to a win.

Exactly!!!!! :up

I think most agree with that opinion Ramy, but like I said...it had more to do with going to the media and going against the bosses than the score.

Yeah I know. He should have just shut up and let the school's apology stand.

Let me clear this up, guys.

I've gotten some heat for this, but let me explain:

I always felt that you have to play hard whether up or not.

As I mentioned previously, I mentioned the football game where the coach pulled his first-string players and paid the price by losing.

It's not so much the fact that what happened to the team lost and the team wanted to forfeit immediately- I didn't post this at the time.

It's just that... I don't like the idea of "team that loses should be treated like they were courageous heroes that didn't give up."

When I heard that they were given an invitiation by Mark Cuban to sit in his suite at the Mavs game, I wasn't too happy.

You keep using football games as examples on how you can never let up. Basketball is a completely different sport.

For example, this HS team was up 59-0 at halftime. That's 30 2-point baskets for the opposing team to comeback.

In football, the equivalent to coming back from a 30 touchdowns would be 210-0!!!!!!!!

They should of called the game at halftime.

Think about what you're saying (re: the football game you saw).

This team scored ZERO!!!! points in an entire half of a basketball game! You follow sports closely. You know damn well a team that can't get a bucket in an entire half isn't going to miraculously pull out the W.

Yes, but...

I googled a couple of links about this whole thing, and some people feel that this is a case of going too far with being politically correct.

I'm not saying the coach of the team that scored 100 points should be coach of the year, but I just don't think losing his job is the way to treat this whole situation.

Criticize him if you want, call him a bad coach, but the idea of losing your job just strikes me in an odd way.

Organizations do not like keeping employees around who bring shame and disgrace to themselves and the organization. Not only did he run up the score, but he didn;t keep his mouth shut after the fact.

You are missing WHY he was fired and to caught in the PC thing...he was fired because he went to the media to totally embarrass the school by stating he did not agree with the apology. AGAIN, yo do NOT make the boss look bad infront of the media.

The school was already embarrassaed by the score...now the arrogant as hell coach just 'showed up' the school by showing how much of a tough guy he is....
..I am sure NFL coach and professional ahtletes have been fined/fired for less.

Complete bush league actions on the fired Coach's part. Then can't keep his mouth shut afterwards.

Glad to see him lose his job. Rightly so.

Guys, I am feeling a bit confused about what I wrote.

First, I thought it was a bit over-the-top to fire the guy.

Then, I read into some of this stuff more closely. I am now starting to realize what some of you meant.

However, I am still not going to go along with the idea of treating the other team like heroes for not giving up.

Saying it? Fine in my book.

Getting to go on daytime talk-shows, being invited to a Mavericks game? Not so fine in my book.

In that case, I may have some second thoughts on this guy.

Never mind!!
