Class Action Lawsuit against Dish for Dropping Voom?

I just think most women don't appreciate HD. Like, many of them don't see that much of a difference.

My wife was just complaining last night because she wanted to get a PPV and the one she wanted to see wasn't in HD. She wouldn't buy the SD version.

As far as IFC, I don't really watch the channel. Don't they either have commercials or cut out sex and language? It seems I remember watching something on there once and being pissed about them cutting out parts or something.

Apparently their marketing campaign is too subtle for people like you.

Your wife does not represent all women. Just look at her. No... no... but seriously, I am talking about women overall. Read again what I said. Most HD channels to date have been aimed at men. Sports channels, History Channel, Discovery, SciFI...etc... most of the stuff so far has been aimed at men. I do think men are more interested in HD than women overall. You can't possibly doubt that. You know exactly what I mean. Who buys most of the HDTVs, men or women? That is usually the man's department. Women do most of the clothes and food shopping for the family. Of course these facts aren't ALWAYS the case. For example, I buy the clothing for my 11 year old son and do at least half of the grocery shopping (mainly because I have more time), but overall, there are more women at the grocery store than men doing the family's shopping. So don't cite some example of your wife and skew it like I am totally wrong. It is a fact that most channels so far in HD have been aimed at men and men are more "into" the electronics than women are. This is not really questionable.

As far as IFC, I am not stupid and see the giant "uncut." But I believed that was referencing the upcoming HD version of the channel. And uncut could mean no commercials but sex and language is edited out, or it could be unedited with commercials. Not necessarily both. I have since done a wiki search on it and see that they don't have commercials or edit the movies. This does not change the fact that I have bad memories of the once or twice I watched something on the channel. It is a vague memory. It could be the grainy picture that turned me off to it.
 
I hope the uncut means unedited rather than no commercials. I would rather have commercials than beeps.
 
IFC is an uncut, unedited, commercial free channel. You can expect the HD version to be the same. That's what IFC stands for and they have high standards. They will show the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Evil Dead unedited and uncut without commercials so you can expect the same for all their movies - Independent Films obviously.

It's probably that the movies didn't have any talking robots or black guys dressed as fat women.
 
If Chiller were smart they would make the HD version of their channel uncut and unedited, I mean when they go HD it still wont be great with commercials and edits.

I spent almost 1 year shopping for a new flat screen HD TV, then once I got it in March, spent another 4 weeks looking around, researching whether to stay with Dish and upgrade to HD, switch to Direct TV, Fios, or Comcast. After reviewing the options, I specifically went with Dish because they offered some great HD channels. Specifically I chose Dish though because of the Voom channels (Monsters, Kung Fu, Rave, Gallery). For true HD content it sounded like there was none better.

Needless to say I was required to upgrade my receiver/dish and dvr for a $150 fee, and agree to a 2 year contract. I did so willingly with the knowledge that Dish Network's HD content was unmatched by any other cable outlet.

Since Dish has dropped the Voom, the replacement channels are not at all in comparison to what was offered. The channels offered now are NOT all HD. TNT is simply upconverted and squeezed. Bravo's content is NOT HD. A&E is NOT HD. Why do I care what the weather channel looks like in HD? Why do I care what my stocks look like in HD on CNBC?

They've taken the commercial free VOOM channels and replaced them with sub-par commercial ridden SD upconverted channels. Try watching any movie, rather, commercial fest, on Bravo. (Casino? Because I have 4 hours to sit and watch a 2 1/2 hour movie).

In my mind, we as customers are owed something for the loss of the Voom channels. Shouldn't a person be mad if they just spent $2,000 on a tv and a 2 year commitment to a cable company only to have their HD content drastically change? It is none of my concern what contract disputes/discussions/problems Dish is having with Voom. That is no excuse to simply pull the plug on the Voom channels.

I am in the process of contacting several different attorneys to see what the options are. I'd like to know if other Dish Network customers feel the same way and whether they would be willing to be a party to any lawsuit.
Yes, I see it now. A law firm getting paid and not much else. Time to move along.

Something is wrong with Chiller.

It seems to be in the early start-up stages similar to when Sci-Fi started. (It took Sci-Fi year and years to build up to what it is today.)

I'm not sure how they can even sell advertising on all those old old old horror series. But this is a commercial channel, I don't think I've ever seen a commercial channel convert to a premium channel so I'm sure the HD version will be commercial.

I'm also not sure what the point of going HD would be since their current content propably could not endure upconversion (unless we want enhanced graininess).

One thing that might work for them, they are new and don't own too much content (other than old TV series) to begin with so they might be willing to invest in HD content. They are also operated by NBC Universal so they have easy access to their vaults.
 
IFC HD is owned by Rainbow Media (the Voom owners).

IFC HD would be a great great channel, but I'm not holding my breath.

Chiller needs to make deals, like the ones monster made with New line.

But you may be right, universal might have a deep library.

Chiller might not know what direction to go in as of yet.

Right now they have a weak lineup.
