Ciel 2 Tracking

Starting yesterday it has been searching for signal on 129 and now shows red when testing 110.
Nothing has gone wrong with 110. My guess is that your dish isn't well locked down, has moved a tad, and needs to be repeaked. It is 129 that will be fixed with the arrival of Ciel 2.

As far as the speed being zero goes, it is my theory that the calculations program possibly needs more than 2 TLE's to make the prediction that the satellite is on the move. I guess when the next TLE comes, we will know for sure if C2 is on its journey.

I sure hope you're right about this, I want Ciel 2 to get there...... 2 yrs. ago. :)

You are probably seeing them letting it float around a bit. No need to keep it perfectly in the "box" when no customers are using it. It might even be part of their checklist...never know.

Does anyone think the new 129 sat will have more bandwidth and they will send full signal resolution?

I would think it more likely they will simply continue to emphasize expansion of coverage. We may be 2 or 3 years away from a "quality" battle, unless some new and improved compression method is devised. Capacity is still very limited compared to the need, despite the apparently excellent design of the Ciel-2 satellite.

omeletpants asked "did I see a link to...the Ciel 2 progress...?"

Probably. I know someone posted a video link to the launch on one of the earlier pages of this thread. Other than that--I don't think so; no one has any photos of Ciel 2 floating around in space. nelson61 and others have posted the latest TLEs and ongoing reports of the testing. The next steps will be for the testing to end and movement of Ciel 2 to begin.
