I currently have several Legacy receivers connected to a Legacy Quad 500 dish pointing at 110 and 119. These receivers are working fine for my older TV’s. I have one new HD TV that I would like to connect to a new VIP612 receiver that I would purchase from Dish Depot along with a new dish. I do not have a clear line of sight to the 129 satellite. Therefore I would purchase an Eastern Arc dish. Is there any reason why I cannot have two dishes pointed in different directions to accomplish my needs? Would Dish object or question this arrangement?

I live in the Chicago area. Are my HD locals available on the Eastern Arc? The Dish Network Market tabulation says the HD channels are available on the 129 satellite and transponders D#1018 and D#1020 but does not state which satellite. Are these Eastern Arc feeds?

Thanks in advance!

I believe those are on the new 61.5 satellite (went into service earlier this year), which is on Eastern Arc. The Uplink reports (and thus, the channel chart) haven't gotten all of the transponders mapped for the new satellite yet.

The 61.5 Chicago locals are on transponders 18 and 20, spotbeam 55.

As long as you dont tell Dish you put in a EA dish you'll be fine. Tell them you upgraded the dish and all receivers work fine
(If you say you are on EA they will flag the account and your Legacy receivers will probably get shut off as EA is MPEG4 only)

Why would they object to someone having 2 dishes to be able to pick up both arcs for HD and SD? In fact aren't they upgrading some people to 211's to replace the old 110/119 units if the customer has to go to EA?

But he technically doesnt have to go to EA. He has to due to LOS issues

As far as the VIP receiver, is it safe to say that both the Eastern Arc and the Western Arc are availble full time and there is no possibility that Dish will limit me to one arc or the other?

I understand what Iceberg means by not telling Dish about the Eastern Arc because they might turn off the Legacy receivers.

Thanks!

unless they move the locals to one arc you'll be fine

2 Hopper/2 Joey System questions.

Adding a 211 rec. to my 722 in a MH
