Have any one try the self-install option for Internet package (for new customer) from Charter? They advertise it for $9.95 instead of $49.95.

It depends, if you already bought a cable modem all they have to do is activate the service...and if you don't and want to rent one from them..then it may require one of their installers to come down to install it to your cpu...or you could just go pick up the equipment from your local charter cable office.

LOL...I know how to do just about everything that the Charter installers do, and really don't like other people messing around with my equipment. Other than my HD receiver box (which was an even swap), I've never been lucky enough to have them offer to let me install my own equipment. Heck, I even bought my own cable modem and they waived their fee for coming out to install it for me.

And just to let you know charters HDTV channels are the worst...uber compressed + the SD channels on an HDTV receiver makes a bear cry when he looks at it.

They won't let me do self-install even though I am pretty good with computers and networking and I already got my cable modem connected. After arguing with Charter CSR, they said they still have to do truck roll and pay their staff out to service me.

There is no running away from that $49.95 installation fee eventho their web site says you can have it for self-install at $9.95. CSR said it is not their job to remove the web site misleading message. Bummer!

Very odd company this is.. oh well.
