july 2000 amazing it didnt seem that long ago.......

I remember driving to florida for the launch, spent the nite in very south georgia fog had rolled in. had to drive because up till that launch E sats were always delayed, and airfare that was flexible cost a grand. I had the VIP pass but it didnt pay airfare, and I didnt care.....

i had a wonderful time. the loral engineers said it was guaranteed for 12 years but its actual life was probably 15 if they didnt jet it around the clarke belt too much
