have an old primestar dish, thinking of pointing at galaxy 18,but heard the channels may be leaving soon. is this true?

well if they sell off everything as it looks like they are those new buyers will pull them off satellite

no worries :)

In most cases a TV station has a studio & transmitter in a location. Sure the station may be owned by a big conglomerate in NY or LA, but the station has a "local" presence in most cases. In the case of Equity, they run ALL their stations from headquarters in Little Rock. At the transmitter sites, that's pretty much all that is there. (the transmitter)

So just because the station is in Marquette, MI or BUffalo, NY or Cedar Rapids/Waterloo, IA its being run from LIttle Rock, AR. They beam it up via satellite to the transmitter where a receiver (in some cases a home FTA receiver) decodes it and sends it out OTA.

Most of their stations are low powered so the only way the cable companies can get a signal is via the satellite.

The stations picked up by Daystar will be affiliates and Daystar has their own satellite and signal. Asnoted in the other thread, Assuming Max Media can buy up the Fox stations they already have an infrastructure built in Montana with the ABC stations so they'll just piggyback off that.

Also Equity owns about 1/2 million dollars in back satellite fees so you know the satellite (G18) isnt going to let them "ride county" for much longer

but we've been down this road for 4+ years now whether or not Equity will still be there

Originally there were rumors they were going C-Band 4 years ago and they did (sort of)...they added a C-band TP in addition to the KU they already had. Then money issues came about. N o offence but Equity had the theory of how I play monopoly...buy up a bunch of stuff and pray you got enough money in the end ;)
