I've been a Dish subscriber for a while and when I first got started I set myself up with EVERYTHING. General laziness has kept me from changing it and fearing I would lose something I really watch...but after surveying my usage a lot of the channels I pay for I rarely watch. I'm trying to see how I can best save a significant chunk of change without messing myself up too bad, since it can be a little confusing.

Current Bill:
AEP +Local +PB=$106.98
DishHD Ultimate=$20.00
DHPP=$5.99
DHA Leased Reciever=$7.00
Tax=8.87

Total=$148.84

I use 2 HD DVRs (622/722) and I'm pretty sure $11.98 in DVR Fees would come if I left AEP, right? Also there's a notation that removing channels is $5.00 ($10.00 Adult) do they really charge this fee?

Here's my usage. I watch a LOT of locals, and would make very good use of the Top 200 pack overall. I don't watch much in the Dish HD Ultimate package (what is even in this premium pkg?), I don't watch Playboy, and I honestly watch very little of the Premiums (HBO/Cinemax/Starz/etc.). One sticking point is my wife LOVES DIY Network, but I'm not sure if 1 channel is worth moving up an entire tier.

Based on my usage what is the best plan for me? Are there any deals I can get to help defray the cost of the $12 for DVR fees? Sorry for what may be dumb questions I just scare myself out of changing and I'd really like to save some real cash here. Thanks a lot!

This is what I would do:

AT-250 DVR Adv. $59.99
HD Essential $10.00
DHPP $5.99 *
Leased Rec. $7.00
DVR Fee $5.98
Tax $8.87*
Total $97.83

With the DVR Adv. package, one DVR and one leased fee is included. Locals are also included. You get to keep DIY Network for the wife and you keep the HD Essential channels. You could add any of the Premium channels for $10.00.

I'm not sure if you Tax will go down, don't really know why you're getting charged for tax. The DHPP is another fee that you could get rid of but that's your decision.

Others will suggest the HD Package only but you'll lose the DIY Network. The DishHD package is $29.99 + $5.00 for locals.

I would drop the DHPP. If you have a problem, you can add it back, get the fix, then drop again.

Made the change!!

New pkg:
Dish DVR Advantage 250 $59.99
Dish HD Essentials $10
Leased Reciever Fee $7
DVR Fee $5.98

New Total: $82.97+Tax
SAVINGS: $50 a MONTH

Thanks for your help guys. They said I could add any single Premium for $10 a month too, so if I miss any of the few shows I watched on them I could pick 1 back up and still be down over $40 a month.

You could also play CSR roulette and try to get Cinemax added back under the penny Cinemax deal. Usually, you can't have had it for the past six months to qualify, but people have reported CSRs waiving that. Do a search for penyy cinemax and details should pop up.

I used CHAT function yesterday to add Cinemax for a Penny. I'd had Cinemax just a few months ago (canceled a few months back) and got no static from the Chat CSR. It's definitely worth a try. I already had auto-pay on a credit card and paperless billing, too.

I recently used chat to add Cinemax for $.01 as well. I changed from AEP to DVR Advantage with no premiums 2 months ago. And, even though I read that there was a 6 month lockout on be able to get the $.01 deal, the chat rep never mentioned it.

Thanks for your help guys. They said I could add any single Premium for $10 a month too, h.

I went from AEP to pretty much what you did, and I was told by phone CSR and Chat REP that HBO would be $14.99, even with DVR advantage. They said $10 rate only applies if you sign up for 2 premium packages. Guess it is time to try a 3rd rep.

Anyone here of the Water Channel?

Dish makes it difficult to justify downgrade from AEP, dollar wise
