Remember when Reese’s called its peanut butter cups “two great tastes that taste great together?” You can say the same about DIRECTV’s H26K Commercial Receiver and the KING One Pro automatic satellite system. One is the latest, greatest, and fastest DIRECTV receiver ever built. The other is the best value in automatic satellite dishes. But do they really go great together? Let’s take a look
Since 2009, DIRECTV has installed SWM-enabled dishes by default. SWM is a technology that lets a single wire travel through the house and use splitters. This is better than the old method which meant that two wires from every DVR needed to go all the way back to a central point.
However SWM technology is proprietary to DIRECTV, and they’re not sharing the secret sauce. Sometimes, a manufacturer chooses to buy their satellite reception equipment from DIRECTV, while sometimes a manufacturer will use its own equipment. KING uses DIRECTV’s system for its Phoenix, but when it comes to its compact devices, DIRECTV’s parts are just too big. So products like the KING One Pro don’t support DIRECTV SWM technology.
Most of the time we get past that by giving the customer an H24 receiver, which is DIRECTV’s only receiver that’s capable of using the older, non-SWM, tech. However, the H26K is faster and more reliable than the H24, and customers want it for that reason. But, the H26K only works with a SWM system, just like practically every other DIRECTV box.
The solution is to use a DIRECTV SWM-30 multiswitch between the KING satellite dish and the DIRECTV receiver. It’s an extra piece of technology that handles the translation between non-SWM dishes and SWM-only receivers. It’s an extra expense, but it lets you have the best of both worlds.
Installation is simple, as you can see in this diagram:

As you can see, all you do is connect the two lines from the KING One Pro into the two 99/101 lines on the SWM-30. Then connect the H26K to the SWM1 port.
From there, you’ll need to set the H26K to use an 18″ Round dish. Press MENU, go to Settings, Satellite Setup, Repeat Satellite Setup.
From there you can choose 18″ Round LNB as your dish type and your multiswitch type should be SWM.
