I'm coming from dish network, where the dvr recording is very simple....

One of my biggest problems thus far with DirecTV is figuring out how the heck the series recordings work on this thing...

I have an HR-21 I'm using.

I set up a couple series recordings yesterday for some shows on tonight. When I went to the guide today, and looked up those shows, it didn't show a little R symbol, which worried me that it wasn't going to record. So I deleted the series, and re-added them, and now it does show the symbol, and both shows are in the to-do list. If you have a series set up, is it not going to show a little R symbol on every show that's set to record like dish does??

Also, how does the to-do list work? Does it only show things it's supposed to do that day, or every couple of hours or what?

Another problem I had was setting up series recordings again. I would click on a show, and setup a series, and set it to first-run only. However, in the to-do list, it shows it's going to record that show I had originally clicked on to do the series, even though that particular show is a repeat and not a first-run. Is there anyway to NOT record a certain show in a series recording (say the episode isn't first-run, but your series is setup for first-run only shows)...

I'm sorry if I worded these funny!

The TO DO list will show what it's scheduler says it should be recording out for like 11 to 12 days or so, bascially as far out as the guide data goes.

One thing I've noticed when setting up a SL is that sometimes even when it's set to record first runs only the very first time it see the show it will record it, even if it's a rerun, for me it's hit or miss doing that.

Don't forget to to to the manage recordings screen and set up your defaults for the one touch recording option so when you hit the R twice on a program in the guide it knows what you want to do as a default for the series link.

Hm... That's weird, cuz I setup two series recordings, and there's shows tonight for both, and shows next wednesday and thursday for both, but the to do list only shows the ones for tonight..

I guess that's why I'm confused??

Are these set up for 1st run only? If yes check next weeks showings and display the detail and see what it shows for the 1st run date to make sure if it's a first run or a retun. It could also be if you recently set them up they won't show up until the scheduler has time to parse it's requests against the guide data and figure out what it needs to record or not.

I'll check later on, but it sounds like your second statement is correct! I'll double check tonight when I watch tv. I wasn't sure if it added right away, or took time to figure things out

You were right, Rad. After awhile, all the shows did show up.

My wife is unhappy right now though! We're trying to figure some things out.

She has a ton of timers set, and obviously sometimes they conflict. We figured out how to record one show instead of another (changing the conflict), but I have a question. On Dish Network, whenever you would stop a recording for one show so that a different show could record, the receiver would find the show you canceled again and automatically record it (if it could find one). Can the DirecTV boxes do this? Or does she manually have to go in and record that particular show again?
