Can some one please explain this to me

A couple of months ago I subbed to the networks from SRL on W-3, I had trouble with reception I replaced my Eagle Aspen LNB with a new Norsat 8515 that helped, but still took a few seconds to get a lock, I replaced my cable from the LNB to my receiver, the old one got cut up by the guy who installed the sprinkler system:mad:, I never told him it was there, my fault:eek:.
I also have a DVB box hooked up to the same line, when ever I would hook up the DVB it was very hard to get a lock at all on W-3, some times never get a lock, when I bypass the DVB I would get locks after a few seconds again, I have a splitter for the cables to go to both receivers, and a DiSEgC Switch, anyway today I decided to make it easier to switch from the splitter to just the 4Dtv receiver by putting on the cables that you just push on, I put in a threaded splice so I could hook up the push on cable, thinking that I would just unplug it from the splitter and push it onto the in for the 4Dtv, now I get a lock almost immediately even with the splitter in place, I don’t have to bypass the splitter, the only thing I did different was hook up that cable in line with the splice, so why am I able to get a lock now?

Are you using a Hi Block Splitter with DC power pass to one port? I have my 4DTV split with the power going to the 4DTV for C band. The non power pass side feeds a port on the Diseqc switch. The Diseqc also has 2 ku dishes fed to it and power is passed from the Visionsat to those LNBF's. This would be a proper way to hook it up.

If your using a splitter that passes power on each port that could be an issue. Also all jumper cables are not created equal. Some lengths will cause a change in the SWR that can create reflections on the line. I have seen with different cables and lengths quality numbers change. This is because of standing waves.

What I think happened is the cable your using now is actually matched better (lower SWR) which is reducing BER and causing faster lockup.

Yes I am using the bypass splitter using the 4Dtv to power the C band side, I have the Ku side going directly to the Diseqc switch.

Just wanted to clareify I did not remove any cable, I just added a length so I could push it on rather then screw it on making a quick coupler so to speak.

By adding cable length you effectively changed the standing wave and reflected power. SWR 101 :)
